This candle has to be the least effective citronella product I have ever used. I had it burning right next to me and was still being eaten alive by insects. A total waste of money. Try Off brand instead.

I bought this to keep mosquitoes away from the deck during barbecues. It wasn't 100% effective but there were definitely fewer bugs around than before.

That said, the candle's smell was pretty overwhelming and by the time the food was done cooking I wasn't really hungry anymore. I understand that all citronella products have some odor but this candle's odor is particularly potent and unpleasant. It also tends to be a little smokier than some other citronella candles I've used before.

In the future I think I'll be trying a different brand.

I found this particular item much cheaper at my local Wal Mart. I was unhappy with the price (after finding it cheaper) and also, the candle shifted during shipment. Do yourself a favor and purchase this in store.
