Before purchasing I researched product including approval in Europe for over a decade showing safety and Consumer Reports review showing Picaridin is equally effective to similar strength of DEET. Picaridin is not smelly, oily, and will not harm plastic and other synthetic materials which is a huge bonus for my application. This product has worked for me in the woods of Florida and the jungles of Mexico with similar results to what I used to get with 25% DEET products. Still should only use it on exposed skin and treat clothing with other insect repellent designed for fabrics/clothing etc but I am pleased and will buy more after having used 3 cans of this so far. I have applied this product more than once in a day and suffered no ill effects but was reapplying after immersion in water or prolonged periods of sweating and at most 3 times in 24 hours.

We live in South Carolina--have mosquitoes, gnats, noseeums, chiggars, red bugs--you name it. Most repellants work on these bugs, but the gnats are the biggest problem. It's hard to find something that works on repelling gnats. Cutter Advanced with picardin is the only thing we've found that seems to help. Wouldn't trade it for the world during the mid-summer gnat season here in SC. A great product.

compared to Deets sprays:

prose: does not harm fabrics. no chemical smell. Feels natural on skin, not oily. it's safe to use directly on skin (read any spray containing deets, it warns you not to spray on skin. Don't know why, probably causes cancer)

cons: doesn't last as long. I'd say 2-4 hours of protection

I'm stocking up on this stuff because it's the best stuff I've found anywhere, and I think I've tried every spray on the market.
