Listing of period tailoring manuals and other pattern books,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cutting for All: The Sartorial Arts, Related Crafts, and the Commercial Paper Pattern (Paperback)
This book is for the costume researcher. It lists period tailoring manuals from the 16th century to late 20th century chronologically. Then it has modern books on costume as well, like Janet Arnold. Talks about the history of the paper pattern.
Several period tailoring manuals have been re-published by companies such as R.L.Shep. I have ran across a few books that should be listed in here, that aren't but for the most part I have found many more that I want to search out. The index has some wonderful category listings such as undergarments, but no listing for children's clothing. If you are a costume researcher who want to find interesting books to ILL or travel to visit the museums and libraries that have the originals, this is a wonderful book to add to your collection. |
