5.0 out of 5 stars Obsession, December 14, 2000
This review is from: Cutting Edge (Audio CD)
This cd is truely an increible cd. The band comes presenting worship in a contemporary fashion. If you like the secular band U2, you'll love this cd. The very last track, obsession, is the best song on the album. Whenever I hear the song, I think of the story of Jim Elliot. This song could easily be the testimony of Jim Elliot, who was martyred by Auca Indians during the 1950's. If you know Jim Elliot, and love his story, listen to the words of the song and you will know what I am talking about. My words can't tell this well enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent praise and worship from an excellent band!!, October 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cutting Edge (Audio CD)
Delirious? is a fantastic band! And this set shows what God can do with a band of such talent. The songs included in this package pre-date the songs on "King of Fools" and they are fantastic. Delirious? showcase their praise and worship roots on these discs.

CD 1 contains earlier songs from the band and some you may have heard during the worship time at your own church. The best songs are "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever", "Shout to the North", "Message of the Cross", and "Thank You for Saving Me". All of the songs on this CD are open and honest praise to God, but I especially like these.

CD 2 shows Delirious? making a transition to a more complex song-writing style (similar to "King of Fools"). This CD contains the set's best song "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?". This song is an anthem of praise to God. It's absolutely fabulous. Other great songs include "I'm Not Ashamed", "I've Found Jesus", and "Obsession".

If you're a fan of Delirious?, this is a must have. If you love praise and worship music, this is a must have. If you love great music, well, you get the idea - you will not be disappointed. God really has a way of blessing your work if glorify Him in all that you do - and these songs do that with a passion!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sonic Tidal Wave, May 1, 2001
This review is from: Cutting Edge (Audio CD)
This is one of the best collections of worship music from one of the world's best worship bands! The songs are from all the mini-albums that Deliriou5? released when they were still a minor English band called "Cutting Edge" (name changed 1-1-96), plus a few songs after that. Their style (especially on albums after this one) is very similar to U2: lots of guitar and real music in the background. The CD jacket includes all the lyrics and the story of the band's formation and growth. As for the songs... there's not enough good that can be said about them! From peppy songs like "Shout to the North" and "I've Found Jesus" to the deeply heartfelt "You Split The Earth" and "Obsession," I could listen to this collection for hours. And of course, it includes what the jacket calls "THE song of that summer [1996]...a sonic tidal wave, a spiritual battering ram...'Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble?' ", which is without doubt the best song on the CD and one of my absolute favorite worship songs. In short, buy this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Passionate Worship, May 3, 2001

The Cutting Edge CD's represent probably the best worship music produced by Delirious right at the beginning of their life as a band. The CD has joyous songs of celebration like the Happy Song, I've Found Jesus and Louder than the Radio as well as intense songs like Obsession. The songs on these CDs are packed with energy and emotion. One of the best CD sets I've ever bought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Literally!, December 3, 2000

This is Nuclear Powered worship! The songs are all different, unique, and creative. They will bring you into worship in a new way. I had never heard this group before today, and am buying some more for my teen age kids. I couldn't put this music away, as it says what is in my heart in a new and different way. Now I am not a youngster, but unless you have a closed mind about music and can only worship singing hymns, you need to get this double album. Worth the cost just for the first song "Did you hear the nations tremble?" I love God, and I love to worship Him. This takes me to my knees before His throne.

4.0 out of 5 stars the weak made strong, December 31, 2006

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Cutting Edge (Audio CD)

In 1995 I sat at a dinner table in Oxford and chatted with the young American at my side. He was the manager of a new band called 'Delirious?', he explained. They were going to be the next big thing, perhaps the next U2. He earnestly implored me to watch for them, I would not be disappointed.

The band's name did not seem promising and the guy clearly had an interest in promoting his project. I didn't take him too seriously.

A decade later and with many Delirious cds on my shelf, I smile to recall this memory.

CUTTING EDGE was in fact the first name of the band. To appreciate this CD, you've got to enter the narrative of the insert and appreciate the band as a spiritual and musical phenomenon that seemed in the mid-90s as much a surprise to the musicians, managers, and hangers-on as anyone else. The United Kingdom is often referred to these days as 'post-Christian', a dismissive adjective that is overstated but, sadly, contains much more truth than one could wish.

The Delirious? phenomenon is, perhaps as much as anything else, audible testimony to the fact that the Lord does not easily abandon a nation. Dry bones are unpromising material, the prophet Ezekiel would concede, but when breathed upon by the Lord's spirit are capable of becoming a mighty army.

Indeed.

Such rhetoric, with its palpable biblical allusiveness, is part and parcel of the Delirious? package.

Before anything else, these tracks give us worship songs. Those looking for highly-produced, densely-packed, expertly-scored music like that of, say, Steven Curtis Chapman, are likely to walk away from this double-cd package disappointed and a bit glazed over.

Delirious? was and is a work in progress. Classic, simple rock progressions ('Singer's Song) give way to acoustic reflectiveness ('Lord, You Have My Heart'). Yet one never loses the sense that Delirious? is in some essential sense a band up on a stage. Leading worship. The recording studio came later and, one might sense, only half welcomed.

This reviewer lived for many years in Costa Rica, where in our church we often sang Delirious? songs in Spanish. Presumably, few of us knew the source.

Although much of Delirous?' output has not weathered as well as I had hoped, I am still deeply moved--as I was upon first hearings some years back--by the band's tempered, chastened side, a tonality that seems to move them consistently towards the Cross of Christ as their ground zero. This part of their artistic bandwidth is best appreciated via 'The Prophet Song' and others that I'll excerpt below:

'The Prophet Song':

'I hear the words of the prophets
I love to sing with the angels
I love to hear children praying
I love to see weak made strong
But most of all I love to hear the voice of God'.

With these lyrics, Martin's voice reminds us of what is central to our shared live of faith and what is, if not peripheral, then at least not indispensable.

Then one wonders about the biography behind a song that I have sung alone in tears:

'Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I've walked against the water
Now I'm waiting, if you please

We've longed to see the roses
But never felt the thorns
And brought our pretty crowns
But never paid me the price ...

We didn't count on suffering
We didn't count on pain
But if the blessing's in the valley
Then in the river I will wait'

This pensive, profoundly grown-up offering seems to co-exist effortlessly beside the raucous and grin-making 'I Found Jesus!'. Indeed, it is the very fact that the men of Delirious? have chosen to grow up in front of us and out loud that accounts for a large portion of the reservoir of affection that one feels for them as human beings and appreciation for the music they have so generously handed over to all who choose to listen.

This is a very powerful album. Delirious can blow you away because they are very annointed. Their music is very similar to U2, so if you like that type, and you love to worship Jesus, you HAVE to get this album! May the Favor of the Lord rest upon you!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Christian Bands, September 13, 2005
This review is from: Cutting Edge (Audio CD)
I had listened to more current Delirious music and liked it. My wife had ordered this CD and gave it to my daughter. It sat around for awhile. She pulled it out the other day, started playing it and I went, "I didn't know we had this, this is great stuff!" When Delirious was a young band, (Known as "Cutting Edge" back then), they were more centered on worship type of music. Not as heavy on the metal, more string guitar stuff, but very good. It has some of their all time classics, "I could sing of Your love forever" and "Did you hear the mountains tremble?" Many others you can sing to in the car and worship Jesus. I highly, highly recommend this CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cutting Edge, September 23, 2008
This review is from: Cutting Edge (Audio CD)
Ok this was cutting edge for me. I remember when someone gave me this double disc for a birthday present (actually is was 2 tapes, thanks TOM). I bet I played it like 80000000000000 times. It was Christians actually rocking out like most of the secular stuff I was listening to at the time. I still love to pop this in now. I had to by the CD because I no longer have a tape player. I would probably purchase it again if something happend to these disc.
