In a technical book that is remarkably compact, he covers the various sound formats and how to convert among them, the major plug-ins and how to use them, how to create files, what the browser wars mean for audio, how to get the highest possible recording quality, and the process of hiring and recording voice talent. He even manages to include a section on the legalities of copyrights and how to stay out of trouble.

Best of all, Simpson explains the subject in a simple, engaging manner for intermediate users while providing useful information for those experienced in interactive Web-site production. He assumes a basic knowledge of Web-site creation and focuses on what makes for sound design using the state-of-the-art tools. While most companion CD-ROMs are mere add-ons, his is an important part of the book.
