Great collection of "Films for Radio" outtakes, demos and other odds-and-ends, September 2, 2008
This review is from: The Cutting Room Floor (Audio CD)
Over the Rhine has pretty much been releasing a new studio album every two years since the 2001 release of their excellent "Films for Radio" album, still their most adventurous album to date. In the "off" years, the band has released a lot of "fans-only" albums, starting with this album in 2002.
"The Cutting Room Floor" (13 tracks; 57 min.) collects a tantalizing number of "Films for Radio" outtakes that didn't make the album (such as the excellent 1-2 punch of "Spinning " and "Toledo"), remixes (such as "If Nothing Else" and "Give Me Strength"), and demos (such as "I Radio Heaven" and "Fairpoint Diary"). The album is flushed out with odds-and-sodds like a country-flavored version of "Green-Clouded Swallowtail", the unreleased "Happy and Free" and the closer, a live version of Neil Young's "Helpless" from their 2001 Christmas tour. In all, this is simply for the dedicated fan. The band has stepped up fans-only releases in recent years, in particular with the annual "Live from Nowhere" series, which recently saw its Volume 3 released. Please note that ALL of these releases are available from the band's website.
