5.0 out of 5 stars There is no easier way to emboss
The Cuttlebug embossing folders are the best of all worlds. They emboss cleanly, can be used in most larger die cutting machines and they're inexpensive. I use mine in a Sizzix Big Kick. They are plastic folders with a positive image on one side and a negative on the other. Sandwich paper between, put it through the machine and voila! You have your image

3.0 out of 5 stars Pricey!
This is a great texture. I bought it though for only $3 at Michaels/Joann's just last week. Regular price at Michael's is $5.99 and with a 40-50% off coupons each week, it's a steal! $8 + is not worth it though.

The area the larger folders cover is a quarter sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper, just the right size for a small card or a panel on a larger card. This particular design looks good as is or colored in with chalk or markers.

The most dynamic method, however, is to use a brayer to ink the negative of the folder, insert the paper and roll it through the machine. What you get is the raised image the color of the paper and the background the color of the ink. It is gorgeous.

Some of the most effective uses come from embossing white paper and doing nothing at all other than adding a sentiment or a couple of embellishments. It can be quite elegant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, September 1, 2008
I use this for my cards. I take a strip of paper the same length as the die but larger in width, emboss it, then cut the width down to the size I want, and glue it onto my card. The result is fantastic. If you try to emboss the card itself, it leaves a faint edge indention that may bother some that's why I emboss with the width larger than what I need. It's a great addition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuttlebug embossing folders, November 12, 2009
This review is from: Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folder, Textured Script (Kitchen)
I have several embossing designs bought on sale that aren't displayed on the Amazon site and would play with them all day if I could. This is a great way to add texture to card stock and novelty or antiqued paper.

The dies which create cutout designs are very expensive compared to the embossing designs.

The Cuttlebug is one of very few affordable home-scale embossing machines. I'm still learning to use the cutout dies but bought this primarily to make embossed cards and stationery. I wish they made more classic and historic designs for formal correspondence, though. It would also be great if they made embossing alphabet sets so you could personalize your stationery and avoid the whopping charges of some stationery companies.

This folder creates exactly what you see - written words. I think this looks better on brown or goldish toned papers. Looks like and old piece of a journal. Wouldn't use with too thick of papers, regular cardstock should give the results what you desire.

This is a great all purpose background embossing plate, with high relief so you can really see the dots.

I get a lot of positive feedback from people when I use this embossing folder as a background on cards. I find it versatile enough to not get old. First I use it as is, just emboss a light piece of card stock and complete my card design. Second, I emboss a piece of card stock and sponge a coordinate color ink lightly over the top of the raised letters for more dramatic look. But my favorite way to use this folder is to emboss Color Core cardstock and then sand the raised image to reveal the color "core". That is the most dramatic and gives the most texture to my work.Core'dinations Cardstock Super Assortment 8.5"X11" 80/Pkg-So Mod!

I bought this product and was very happy with the quality of the embossed image. I used a sponge and randomly inked the background and the flower and the results were beautiful. I also tried chalk and it worked great too. Try glittering the flower only A+. Highly recommend PRODUCT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful addition to my Cuttlebug embossing folders, June 23, 2010
The only limitation to the Cuttlebug embossing folders is their size: this happy birthday folder will emboss a layer of paper that fits nicely onto 4.25"x5.5" piece of cardstock (size A2). Since embossed paper is usually used for layering, so the size limitation might not be as important as it seems. I can also emboss with my Xyron Creatopia Machine 12-Inch-Includes 25ft Permanent Adhesive, and since its embossing system consists of a set of two rollers (as opposed to the Cuttlebug's folder), I can emboss paper of any length.

However, Xyron's machine has very few embossing patterns, whereas Cuttlebug has something for almost every type of card (except maybe sympathy--I use a tree embossing pattern for my sympathy cards). The birthday folder is the one I use most often. It has both intaglio and relief embossing, and is lots of fun to color (especially with chalk).

The Cuttlebug is basically a set of two rollers that press the folder pattern (back and front) into a piece of paper as the paper and folder are fed through the rollers. It's a simple concept, and the Cuttlebug performs it really well.
