She was launched on the River Clyde, Scotland, in the year 1869, and spent most of her time transporting goods around the world. In 1885, she beat the Thermopylae in a famous race from Australia to England, winning by 7 days. Today, the Cutty Sark retains the glamour of her wind-blown past. Resting in dry berth in Greenwich, England, the Cutty Sark lives on as the last link to an age when the proud and beautiful clippers ruled the ocean. This kit features 164 pieces, sails are flexible white styrene plastic, 3-piece hull and deck assembly are finely molded to resemble wood .planking. 1-piece masts with easy to assemble yards, 35 billowing sails and authentic decals and flag sheet. Also comes with a display base. Ship measures 16" long when complete. Skill level 3

This is my first model ship, and I have vastly enjoyed working on it. It is not easy, especially the rigging. But I am having more fun working on this that I have ever had drinking Cutty Sark scotch!

This is not for small children, and it is not an overnight project. The color scheme is not always clear, but part of the fun is making it your own.

If you want to start a model ship, I recommend this one. My next project is The Victory, then my first wooden model.
