I have a cheap little insperion netbook with tiny, tinny, barely audible speakers. These little babies clip right on to the top of the netbook and produce a respectable (not loud, but does the trick) sound WITHOUT a separate power source. They're USB powered, which was the biggest selling point for me. I didn't want to compromise the uber-portability of a wee little laptop by plugging in a cumbersome cord or clumsily dragging along detached speakers.

It doesn't seem to make a dramatic difference in the battery life, but I'm sure there's some impact. There's a power switch, so if you don't need sound, you can turn them off and not take power without having to detach/unplug them.

The sound isn't going to blow anyone away, but it's perfect to use outside or in the kitchen (plenty audible over the fan/fridge/dehumidifier), or around the house. Now I can watch a netflix movie or hulu show or listen to pandora or npr anywhere in the house without any trouble. And the price was dandy. Yay!

I like this soundbar a lot. It is very portable and the sound quality is very good. It comes with a nice carrying case.

It is perfect for my laptop. It is a little too big for my netbook, but I still use it.

It needs two connections usb for power and audio connection (the cables are built into the soundbar).

I truly think you will be very happy with this portable speaker; I know I am.

I originally ordered the GoGroove SonaVERSE laptop speaker (red) through Amazon from Beach Audio. Big mistake! Going by the reviews of the GoGroove it was supposed to have volume control on top but upon receiving it, there are NONE! I repeat NONE! To return it to Beach Audio, I had to pay a for return shipping (and they wanted it insured) and a 15% restocking fee, even though I feel the fault lies with Amazon and Beach Audio for allowing incorrect reviews. I knew the "return policy" on this, but was certain I would like it because its reviews said it had the volume controls. Don't buy the GoGroove SonaVERSE--Buy this instead; you'll be much happier and this Cyber Acoustics is cheaper.

I bought this Cyber Acoustics CA-2880 from Office Depot, an office supply chain store, because I didn't want to wait for another delivery plus I didn't have enough for the $35-minimum free delivery; and I love it! This sounds just as good as, the GoGroove if not better.
***I have no static problem (which I had with the GoGroove when going from music to music or sound to sound websites).
***It has an on-off button and a volume control on the top. You can see these in the picture; great to have.
***The volume gets as loud as one would want it.
***It clips on easily to my 15.6" ASUS laptop or my 10" Acer netbook.
***I haven't experienced any drain on the battery power as I used it for at least an hour last night on my netbook to listen and watch music on youtube with no affect on my battery power.

After reviewing soundbars available for laptops (and seeing that unless you pay a lot more the sound quality doesn't seem to vary much), I finally chose this one mainly for these features: on/off switch and volume control on sound bar. In terms of audio quality, I'm not an 'audiophile' but simply wanted better speakers than the internal ones in my bottom of the line, [...] Tosh laptop. And I didn't want to pay a bunch since I was being frugal with the laptop in the first place! This soundbar delivers decent audio, has traveling case, controls as noted, was plug/play, and for [...] (with free prime shipping) a great buy.

This speaker is USB powered so you'll lose one USB port. It also plugs into your headphone jack. The length of the cords are fine for my 15.6" laptop (should work with bigger laptops too). The clip is tight enough, but it will wobble if you jiggle the your monitor too much. (So no rough housing! ;) ) There's one power button and a volume control on the top, which is easy to access. A blue light shines when the power is on. I'd say these speakers are about 5 1/2 inches in length, about 1 1/2 inches high, and about 1 inch thick. It's not very heavy. As an unexpected bonus you get a bag to put your speaker in for travel. (It even comes with a pocket for the cords!)

If you're an audiophile, I don't recommend these. They don't produce a "deep" sound because they lack any real bass. But if you're just looking to upgrade your laptops speakers, these are great. The sound is very clear, great stereo, and you can go up pretty high in the volume before you encounter any real distortion.

My laptop only had one tin-y sounding speaker that didn't go very high up volume wise. These speakers were the only true portables I could find being sold in my area. They perform perfectly for my needs, and they aren't too expensive either. I highly recommend them!

Yes, the clip is nice and great for laptops, but I also like to use this for my desktop so I'm not always under headphones. The base of the speaker is small and awkward so it falls over easily and the clip isn't large enough to get on a monitor, just a laptop. The cable is extremely short, too. Not a problem for laptops, which is obviously this thing's original purpose, but it is nearly taut when going from my desk to my computer, which is right under my desk.

The audio quality itself is decent for a $20 speaker. Audiophiles will have complaints but it isn't bad for what it is. The problem, and the reason I'm giving it two stars, is the ringing. I had read that it was a problem but I'm used to the hum of electronics and others may have gotten faulty models. This ringin is unbearable. It is a piercing high pitch, clearly audible at even the lowest volume. It -is- bad enough to take three stars off. You will probably prefer your laptop's weak speakers to this thing's ringing.
