They are USB powered which is very convenient.

I don't like static and the purpose of the purchase was to improve upon the poor speaker quality on my 2007 laptop.

For their size, the sound quality is amazingly good.

These speakers are good for the price due to the fact that they are, USB powered, slim and portable, and have decent sound quality. However, there are speakers out there in the same price range that offer better sound quality. While some of these might not be as portable they are still USB powered. They're great if you want to travel with them, and need some speakers to set up in your hotel room. If you are looking for a True USB speaker set up to use at your home and aren't as concerned about it being portable, then I would go with other choices out there in the same range. I usually use the standard AC plug with AMP that plug into your computer's headphone jack, but my jack was damaged and must settle for the less powerful USB type.

If you need USB connector type speakers, look no further. These are a great sounding pair. I bought these for my new laptop because the headphone/speaker input was in the front which I didn't care for. Just plug into any USB port and the computer will install the drivers for it (Windows Vista). Sit back and relax to your favorite music. Volume is very LOUD so I had to turn it down a bit. A very good value for the monry.

The sound is pretty good, easy connectivity with my Vista ultraportable. I have mostly design quibbles. Don't understand their size - too big for their innards! In their travel case they could easily pass off as a netbook computer! Could have been half as big and therefore lighter with the same 2-way configuration. Designer or boss doesn't seem to understand the value of size/weight in mobile speakers. Plus no channel in back to feed the cables through, so when packed up in their travelling case the cables are compressed by the closed kickstand which itself will wobble and eventually loosen at hinge due to this oversight. Aesthetically they're ok, yet don't you hate fake bass ports? Like a fake air intake on a car hood. I mean who are you fooling? Just because you're selling them online doesn't mean you can play that game! Just more useless molded plastic, more weight... keep it simple, guys! Stick to the basics, less is more, less is more... On the up side, one design decision which I do agree with is the avoidance of any front-facing power-on LED indicator. These are invariably too bright in a darkened environment and an eyesore when watching a DVD, with a pinpoint of bright blue light staring at you from off to one side of the screen. Here the solution was to place a column of light on the side, which both softens the effect and does not intrude on the visual field.

I bought these to connect to my laptop when I do presentations that require sound. They fit in a tiny case that slips into my suitcase easily. Connect via USB to Win7 with no setup. Sound quality and features are EXCELLENT in a medium size room. If the listeners will be more than 25 feet from the speakers, I had to turn the volume up to the point where it distorts. As a result I use professional speakers in a large room and these in a medium room. They stand up vertically on a table using built in fold out stands which are great. they require no power cord. Only one plug to USB(from one of the speakers . . . the two are connected by a cord).

These are good little speakers. Just what you would expect for the price. The carrying case is deffinently a nice feature. They will travel well in your laptop case, as long as it's big enough. Plus they are USB powered, so no extra cables.

These USB-powered speakers are well-made and powerful enough to fill a small room. They have no battery and no aux input and work only plugged into a computer USB port. They sound quite clear on voice but tend to be boxy and shrill on rock, better on acoustic stuff. Clearly they're intended for casual use, especially to travel in a suitcase. If you place these on a desktop with the little 2" drivers pointed at your face 2 ft away, they are so hot as to be virtually unlistenable; tilting them back 45 degrees (or more) mellowed them out a bit... The bass is surprising given their small size- I don't doubt their claimed response of 80Hz. The headphone output is excellent but the very short, captive cords are a pain. I'm using them with a USB extension cord.

After 30 days of use I gotta say these a fine value. A little judicious equalization via iTunes helps: a few dB of boost at 60Hz gives them much-needed weight without causing them to overload; -5dB at 4k takes out the screech. Not bad. The headphone output is actually quite good, a little wooly in the bass but decently flat from there up and it drives my Sennheisers LOUD.

I like to watch vids on my laptop when I cook dinner and clean the kitchen. Unfortunately, some of our kitties chewed the wires on my last set so I wanted something that was sturdy, small and had less "tempting" wires. After doing a lot of online comparison shopping, I decided to give the 'CA-2908' speakers a try, based on my needs. These speakers only have one USB connecting cable and another cable connecting the speakers to each other and the lengths are short enough to tuck safely behind my laptop without much showing. The '2908's couldn't be any easier to use: I just plugged the USB cable into my laptop and the driver installed itself. That's all!

The '2908's have a "mute" switch and "+" and "-" volume controls. There is no EQ control, however, which is one of the reasons I deducted a star in this review The little cabinets are made of hard plastic with tough grills to protect the speakers. The cables are a little thicker than some, which is a plus in a house filled with kitties who love to chew.

For their size, the sound quality is amazingly good. No, you're not going to get the rich bass that adding a little woofer would give you but, when size is at a premium, these speakers deliver adequate bass response. The mids and highs are crisp and I could hear movie dialog clearly from anywhere in the kitchen, even with the faucet and fan running, etc. ...at least, at full volume! However, a couple more dB of gain would have been a plus and the barely adequate volume is the other reason I'm rating these speakers with a "4" instead of a perfect "5".

These speakers come with their own little zippered case: another plus.
