The unit sounds good. It LOOKS good. The boom mic is flexible, and the mute slider is handy. I was very well pleased, until the mic stopped working altogether. I wrote the manufacturer a week ago, but still have not gotten a reply. Not so good that way.

For the price, I guess ya just buy another one, but it's a bit of a pain to be without it, and disappointing that the manufacturer didn't even bother to reply. So yes, very good, so long as it works, but bear that in mind.

P.S. It has now been a number of months, still not a word back from the manufacturer. Disappointing.

Cyber AcousticsStereo Headset/Microphone, Ambidextrous design AC-201 Bought this headset since I now work from home and am routinely on conference calls for several hours at a time. With this, the voices are crystal clear, background noise is greatly reduced, and it is so comfortable that I hardly notice it even after hours of wear.

I have purchased over 15 of these headsets for my office to use for Skype. The sound quality is fine, and they are comfortable enough. The problem is that they break on a regular basis. Of the 15 I've purchased, at least 10 of them have had the microphone stop working within 3 months!

I would not recommend these to anyone who needs a reliable headset, or someone who does not want to repurchase every 2-3 months.

I use these for gaming and music and think they sound great. Good stereo seperation. I don't have experience with the expensive brands but these sound a lot better than you would think for the price.

I had had problems with every other headset I had ever used, mics going kaput, sound less than stellar, etc. Then I purchased one of these headsets at a major retailer over a year ago. Since then they have seen daily use (I am a heavy gamer and on TeamSpeak all the time) with absolutely no complaints or problems.

Points of interest:

*Deep, full sound from the 40mm drivers

*Mic has never stopped working

*All-day comfort with no pinching, ear soreness or sweating

Yesterday I noticed someone had pulled the cord and bent both jacks. After straightening them out I realized the mic jack was done for, so I broke out a Sentry headset I had in storage for just such an emergency. Even though the new headset boasted 40mm drivers as well with a 20Hz-20kHz range (same as the 401s), the sound was tinny and impossible to enjoy. So I spent the evening with my beloved CyberAcoustic AC-401s on my head for sound, and the new one around my neck for mic use.

I just placed an order for two more of these babies, one to use right away and one to store unopened just in CASE something happens. Buy a pair of these immediately! If you want more than a year of stress-free gaming without having to worry about buying a new one next month, and if you want to enjoy rich, powerful BOOM of a shotgun raining death and destruction on your enemies, do yourself a favor: buy the CyberAcoustic AC-401!

Update (April 2011): I am still using the first of the two headsets I purchased when I wrote this review - 8 months going strong with no issues whatsoever. The second headset I actually broke out for my brother to use, but it's been used only once or twice so far. I stand behind my original review - these earphones are excellent!

Update (Sept 2011): Final update, one year of trouble-free operation from the FIRST headset - the second one is still stored away just in case. Buy with confidence!

Update (Feb 2012): Well, after 18 months, one side of the headset cracked...but it doesn't affect the function or fit in the least...and being cheap like I am, I'll use them until they a) won't stay on my head anymore or b) lose a mic/speaker function.

These headphones are the older plug-in type -- one plug each for the headphones and the microphone. They do not have a USB connection. This is fine most older computers, but it will not work on some netbooks, tablets, and newer machines that have only USB ports. It would be helpful to have this information in the basic specs for the product.

I've been using these series for quite a few years. The first couple of sets i had were the 201, they lasted for 2 years until my toddler broke them. They can last a really long time if you don't mess them up, but they're so cheap, and such a good quality and high reliability, i can just replace them. I'm on my 4th pair within 8 years, the first 2 pairs got mucked up by my toddler (he broke the head arch where they adjust, but they still work), and the last pair I broke by accident myself. None of them were broken due to poor quality, they are absolutely great.

I just love these, I am a gamer with ventrilo/teamspeak and do online conference calls/meetings with them and the mute feature is a life saver. I can mute it easily to cough or yell at my son lol. With proper PC settings, I can have the mic about 2 inches away from my face, and I usually have it hovering above nose level so people can't hear me breath into the mic. I don't need the mic at my mouth. There's a nice distance on the cord too.

For these 401s, there has been one time they were uncomfortable on my ears, but it may have been due to prolonged wear (like 6 hours), and a combination of being a little bit ill (which is why it is 3 stars). But they are pretty decent comfort wise.

I do listen to music with them, and they don't have super heavy pumping bass like you would get out 12" sub woofers, but the bass is pretty strong, sound quality is awesome!

I've had others headsets and these will always be my #1.

Like another reviewer, the mic stopped working for me after a few months (using Vista, but also tried it on Linux). Otherwise it was cool; I like the flexibility of the mic's extension and the comfort of the overall piece.

Right out of the blister pack and the mic doesn't work. I've tried it on several computers and fiddled with all of the settings and the dial. The headset itself works but I needed the mic to interact in my online courses so basically it's useless to me. Very unhappy with losing fourteen bucks and the wasted effort. At least it didn't have the gall to die during mid-terms or finals.

Really good headset for the price. I've tried a variety of budget headsets for gaming use, including several Logitechs. Thus far these are probably the most comfortable, and most durable. They also have remarkably good sound quality for the price. Overall a great headset.
