Cyber Clean Shoe RX is a bright orange goo that is sort of translucent, and a similar consistancy to silly putty. It contains a cleaning solvent that is designed to clean and sanitize shoes. The sticky putty is supposed to draw up dirt and debris and the orange scented solvent is supposed to remove stains and leave the shoes clean, and sweet smelling. The instructions were short and clear: just press the orange goo in, and on the shoes and watch the magic happen.
It was a good idea, if only it had worked! I started gently, and when I saw that this was not effective, I was more agressive - pushing the Cyber Clean hard and holding it in the area I wanted to clean. The goo was pressed in firmly and held long enough to slightly dampen the shoes. At first we thought it was doing something - the orange scent transferred into the shoe and the dirty surface seemed dark with damp cleaning solvent. I waited for the solvent to dry and reveal a freshly cleaned shoe. But as the dampened shoes dried, the same old stains and odor returned. They looked and smelled exactly the way they did before we started to clean them.
The good news is that it is inexpensive, and didn't do any harm to the shoe. In the end, all we lost was the time we spent trying to clean a dirty shoe with an ineffective product. I do not recommend this product.
I really did enjoy the clean, cool feeling of my favorite shoes after I had used the Shoe Rx, but I should have done a spot test first: I have lots of allergies, and some things that don't bother anyone else will bother me. I wasn't expecting so much skin to peel off my feet, though! Nothing serious, but I'll have to see if they have it in a fragrance-free version or in a different scent. If your skin is very sensitive, be careful! For most people, this is a really nifty product; I hope it stays on the market and expands its product line.
I'm passing it on to my daughter whose shoes have a tendency to smell. I think the novelty will help her keep the shoes clean.
A similar product is available for cleaning keyboards so I gave it a shot on my floating keyboard and found it to do a fine job on that. It's good at 'grabbing' particles in harder to reach areas.
For mild and intermediate dirt, it picks it up but it also keeps it inside the goo. No matter how many times you roll it and knead it, the dirt can't obviously disappear into thin air. So if you don't like looking at dirt decorating the orange goo, that's another turn off.
I used this on various sandals so I could see what was going on inside since sandals are easier to clean/wash if the goo got stuck inside. I am glad I did this because it would have been a lot more painful to get out of a standard shoe.
The substance is cooler than room temperature and has an almost liquid feel to it. Almost liquid but not quite liquid. I kept it under the bed since it takes very little space.
I guess if you can afford to use it as a single-use or single-day product, this may be okay, but that's rather expensive per cleaning.
