Excellent futuristic ninja film from makers of Zeiram...., June 13, 2002
This review is from: Cyber Ninja [VHS] (VHS Tape)
What an incredible film this was when it was first released under the title Mirai Ninja(Future Ninja). Why it was renamed 'Cyber' is due to some moron who didn't do his homework obviously. The film is an exciting mixture of Kurosawa samurai epics, TRON and the Star Wars series(to which Lucas was heavily inspired by 2001 and Kurosawa in creating the Star Wars series anyway). The main character Shiranui is a soldier who is believed dead, but "reborn" as the Future Ninja and whips all the baddies before him, all the while acting like some silent-but-deadly ghost(think Snake Eyes from G.I.Joe and you'll get the picture) who disappears in really cool animated speed lines and uses an incredible sword that uses magical bullets loaded into its handle(think Outlaw Star). A video game was released in Japan based on this film as well and featured the same John Carpenter-sounding score which was great(I own the soundtrack). One of the first films from the director who brought us such excellent Japanese Sci-Fi cinema such as Zeiram, Zeiram 2 and Moon over Tao. Future...er...Cyber Ninja is highly recommended, although it suffers from poorly matched dubbing Ala Godzilla/Gojira. Dubbed by those folks who brought you Robotech.
