I think it is a great camera but, as most retractable lens cameras have, just do not hold up. I bought it to have handy in a work environment (indoor/outdoor) and it didn't last 6 months: the retractable lens will not not come fully out and it shuts down. It's just not the sort of camera that is a "pull out of your shirt pocket whenever you need it". I would guess it would NOT hold up well on a sandy beach; the blowing of small sand partials would be it's downfall.

I gave it a 3 star just to cast my vote but with the caveat of the environment I was using it in. So, apart from that, I found it a great camera... but I will stick to fixed lenses in the future.

After using this camera heavily for the past 6 months, I am a little disappointed in the photo quality. At times the images just don't seem as sharp as I would expect them to be. However, the view-screen is very large and clear and the buttons are easy to use. It is a decent everyday camera for casual purposes but doesn't begin to replace my digital SLR for serious photos.
