4.0 out of 5 stars This DVD player has the best price to performance ratio, January 8, 2005
This review is from: CyberHome CH-LDV 1010RS 10-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought the CH-LDV1010RS from Fry's Electronics for $299 and I recommend buying it in a local store in case you need to return because of manufacturer defect problem. The Cyberhome is a web store and there is no support, no phone number to call and your email will not be answered. This is the only negative experience with the product.

The unit plays all DVDs and VCDs (US and Asia) and the AC power supply supports dual voltages. I read about the unit is not capable of reading DVD-R home made disks and it is true. It chokes a lot and got stuck sometimes. The DVD-R disks I am using are TDK 8x and not discounted brand either. I then went and got some certified HP 4x DVD+R disks and the problem is gone. These HP disk is on sale at the time and cost the same as the DVD-R disk about 39 cents per piece. The package comes with an incomplete manual with missing tech specs of the unit. A discount coupon for a $99 customized surround sound headphone and no warranty card. You can download the more complete manual from their web site. You will not find the headphone and the 10" carry bag in their online store and Amazon listed the headphone for $139 full price and the 10" bag is not available yet. So, you have to wait if you plan to car mount this unit. Other than that, consider the low price, dual voltages, all DVD and VCD supported formats, slim design and the very acceptable video quality, this one way ahead and hard to beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sylish...best 10" for the Price, December 22, 2004
This review is from: CyberHome CH-LDV 1010RS 10-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought Cyberhome CH-LDV1010RS from Fry's Electronics and not from Amazon. When I bought it I couldn't find any review. So I thought it's good to write a review to help others like me. This piece was available on internet for much less than what I spent, but I simply couldn't resist to get it when I saw it in Fry's. It's thin design stuck my eyes and I kept going again and again to confirm everything is alright and finally bought it.
Now lets get to the point.
The best part about this product is it's slim design. There are 10"dvd players in that price, but it wont work in 240 Volt or play PAL DVDs. So thats a good news for those who are traveling to Asia or Europe like me. I played it side by side with $600/$700 Panasonic, Tosiba, Sony alongwith other cheaper brands. The picture quality is not as good as compared to Panasonic or Samsung. But with the price in mind I would say, Its a good deal. I couldn't find any lines on the screen, like you see in cheaper brands. The black is not really black like in panasonic. It has a overall slight greenish tone. Sound without the headphone is ok if there is no other noise. It has component/S-Video/Composite video out and Digital Audio output. At first I was a little puzzuled as I could see only one video and one audio connnections(unlike other where you have video in and out and audio in and out), then I came to know that you can change the video output to viedo input by simply pressing a botton.
The most disappointing thing is that, it CAN NOT play my backup DVDs(DVD-R) well, as it has been advertised. Sometimes it plays fine. But at the end it keeps skipping and got stuck. I have noticed that once it got stuck it can't recognize the DVD AT ALL. Then you give it sometime and it will play again. Original DVDs work fine. Seems like it has it's own mind.
Anyways, inspite of all this I would say it's a great DVD player in that price range.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a purchase I deeply regret..., February 15, 2005

This review is from: CyberHome CH-LDV 1010RS 10-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased this DVD Player from QVC at the end of Jan., for a much lower price; and am now waiting for the UPS Guy to come and pick it up so it can go back to where it came from.

The picture quality is just horrid, and trying to adjust it with the limited options is nearly impossible; the options there are don't do much to improve the picture quality anyway. The sound is another feature which is worse than the picture quality. I tried plugging headphones into this unit, and the volume wouldn't go high enough for an enjoyable movie watching experience. The only way one could really enjoy watching anything on this DVD Player is if they were somewhere silent, with nothing going on in the background. With the sound limitations this player has, if someone near you is talking or making any type of noise whatsoever; you'll have alot of trouble hearing what your watching because the volume doesn't go high enough...

Save your money and stay FAR FAR AWAY from this DVD Player, it will save you from alot of frustration and misery.
