4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good product January 3, 2013
I don't write many reviews but I've read a lot of bad reviews of this product. I didn't experience any of the issues that others reported. I bought a Blu Ray drive and needed a player. After doing some research I decided on PowerDVD 12 Ultra. It downloaded and installed with no issues. I'm running it on a Windows 8 machine with a Quad Core i5 processor and 24GB RAM using 2 24" LCD monitors and a 50" Panasonic Plasma TV. BR discs play just fine. The remote app works great on my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone. The only real complaint I have with the software is that YouTube playback is not currently working. I opened a support ticket with Cyberlink and they were very responsive and said there is a known issue and a fix in the works.

One of the other reviews here gave it 1 star because the reviewer didn't like the lack of keyboard short cuts. . . really, one star because you have issues with the keyboard playback?

Others state they don't like the extra stuff that shows up every time they open the program. . . there are settings that you can use to turn it off. When I open my PowerDVD 12 program it opens very quickly right to a generic screen that shows the PowerDVD 12 logo.

This program is fast and responsive. The only crashing that I've encountered is when using the Youtube playback, and occasionally when moving a window, while playing a BR Disc accross one of my monitors that is connected with a standard VGA connection (digital connection needed for BR playback (DVI or HDMI))

I downloaded the software directly from Cyberlink for 50% off with a 30 day money back gurantee.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works until they want more money... April 2, 2013
By TechGuy
Product worked decent after purchasing with my only complaint at that time being the sound occasionally skipped or became misaligned with the video. After about 6 months without anything changing on my PC it stopped playing Blu-ray discs instead offering error messages. The customer support as absolutely terrible. You get generic responses through their automated support system and there is no way to talk to someone for help unless you pay more. Following a long period of back and forth support "tickets" they told me I needed to purchase an upgrade to continue using the product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Uggh. What a nightmare. April 7, 2013
Verified Purchase
I just wanted software so I could watch a bluray on my computer. It was bad enough that I had to pay extra for this as Microsoft does not have this feature and you must buy it separately. I searched the internet high and low for other ways to do it because 70 dollars is 70 dollars! Those ways did not work. I did a couple trials of software. One company, Nero, makes you pay for a trial. WTF. But that is another story.

Right off the bat this software doesn't work when the trial version did! WTF again. Contacted the company and gave them all my purchase info, etc. The company has no live support unless you pay anther fee. The email customer support doesn't do much. Just round about asking your purchase information again after you have given it to them. Then they give you a long list of things to do. On top of that the company inserts commercials for dvd's in this software use. I should be getting this free for all that!

If you don't have to get this software then don't. I could have bought a blu ray player for what I paid for this. I wish I had never purchased and would have read someone else who would make the suggestion to buy a separate bluray player for the same amount of money or less. And with much less frustration and headache.

1.0 out of 5 stars support sucks seller sucks July 9, 2013
not sure why product is listed as ultra when i bough standard. and it was not by download - i got the actual disc.

upgraded from ver 9 to 12. autoresume didn't work. contacted support - they email a response which contains a link to a proposed solution or request for addition info. if it doesn't work or you need to supply additional info you must use a link in the email (clicking the normal reply button doesn't work). you must copy and paste their reply link into your browser to get to a page where you can respond and you can then try to send this page. i had this fail (server not found the first two times i tried it) you must then go back to the original email and then click on the link to again read their response and again cut and paste the link for the reply. then reenter whatever info you have given them and then send - of course there is a high possibility that you will again get the message server not found and have to start over again. eventually support got back to me saying product was counterfeit. according to them the info displayed when i click on about product indicated that what i had was the ultra version whereas the label on cd said it was the standard edition. by the way most of ver 12 features seemed the same as 9. if correct, no need to upgrade unless your playing Blu_ray
