The reason the program is so slow is that Cyber-link runs a bunch of software services to access advertisers for everything you play. The is no privacy unless you disable their several Windows Services. Services are programs the consumer does NOT directly control.
To turn them off, press Control-Alt-Del then select the Services Tab. Then press the Service button at the bottom. Look for the three Cyber-link/Power DVD services then right click and select Properties. Then select Disable.
Cyber-link knows some consumers are on to them so they always re enable them when installing new upgrades.
It is also necessary to add blocking of Cyberlink .exe files to the Windows Firewall.
Consumers want a DVD and Blu-ray player. Cyberlink wants to become the new Facebook, but first must take control of your HTPC!

It will not work no matter what you do if you want to play BluRay and the company WILL NOT refund your money unless you bought it online (digital download ONLY!) ... I got suckered into this and got totally hosed. The support cannot fix the problem and it will not run ... they expect you to disable all security sofware to make it work.

Here is only a part of the comedy they sent me ... it just got worse until they finally told me to get lost. I have a VERY high-end computer, docking station, and quality peripherals ... it does not matter ... read the reviews folks, I did not and I got HOSED!!!

Dear Roy, (Note: they could not even get my name right!!! THREE TIMES!!!)

Thank you for contacting CyberLink Technical Support.

I understand that you are using PowerDVD 11 software and facing software crashing issue.

In regards to your concern, I would request you to please follow the steps given below:

1) Disable UAC

Please follow the steps given below to disable UAC:

Point to Start --> Control Panel --> choose the option "User accounts and family safety" -->Choose "Credential manager".

Note : At the bottom left corner, you will find a option called "User accounts". Click on it.

Choose "User Account Control Settings" and drag the slider down to "Never notify".

2) I would request you to please update your display / VGA and audio drivers on your computer and in this regard you may contact your computer manufacturer or the display / VGA card manufacturer to provide you the updated drivers for your computer.

3) To avoid any compatibility issues:

1. Please close all other software and utility applications.
2. Virus scans, screen saver.
3.

While there are many valid complaints about how poorly written and designed PowerDVD is, the biggest issue is one that most people aren't aware of. Cyberlink (the company that makes PowerDVD) only support their software for two years once it's been published. What does this mean for you, dear consumer? Simply that many Blurays developed after this cutoff date, and with newer AACS encryption keys, will no longer work.

Imagine buying a CD player that refused to play CDs manufactured after a certain date, forcing you to buy a new one. I would not have believed it true if it hadn't happened to me.

Google "Star Wars PowerDVD" and see for yourself. When this major Bluray release came out, owners of PowerDVD 7, 8 and 9, were shocked to discover their expensive software refused to play it. The only solution Cyberlink offers you when this happens is to buy the next version of their software.

In short: It's a scam. Buyer beware!

Edit: As others have pointed out, such restrictions do not happen if you buy a hardware Blu-ray player. The manufacturer will keep sending the new keys to your machine, but despite PowerDVD costing the same (or more), CyberLink refuse to do it. It's an absolute crime.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Listen to the words of the reviewers who tell you that this product is unnecessarily troublesome to install (it took me three attempts to find success). Listen to the words of the reviewers who tell you that this product freezes (it happened to me four times ... and then I cleansed my system of it.) And, truly listen to the reviewers who inform you that this is "bloated." My Alienware is under a year old ... and I can feel the drag of this software. On a new computer? I cannot imagine what it would be like on an older computer.

As a number of reviewers noted, after every less-than-glowing review is a boilerplate comment from the company. They ask for more details about the errors. Anyone else have the impression that this product wasn't thoroughly beta-tested? Or maybe that people are paying nearly $100.00 to be beta-testers? That's a shame.

If this were freeware, I would have still uninstalled it (and I would have still used a cleaner after it). At nearly $100.00, I cannot imagine how anyone can think he/she is getting a product that reflects that (hefty) price-tag. A true disappointment.

Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 Ultra This software is trash. After trying to use the trial version online and getting the message that I must purchase the Ultra version to play blu-ray on an external USB drive, I purchased the software only to be informed that my computer was not ready for blu-ray. Strange, because I play bluray with other software with no problem. I wanted more features. Tried to contact support but either I have to pay extra to talk to a person or write them. Tried completing their form and then told that my request not sent so try again. After spending over $90 and two hours trying to get support, I give up. The only thing this software seems to be able to do is steal your money. This is trash and I am sorry I wasted my money
