Maybe I'm biased, but...,

I think this game is great. I played it all the time in my misbegotten youth, and I think it still has replay value to this day. You control a mech and basically walk around and blow the crap out of everything that moves. The weapons are cool, the cut scenes are cool, the music is cool, I think this is a great buy -- BUT only if you are judging it by the standards of an 11 year old's gaming tasts in the 1990s! (But then, why else would you be browsing SNES games? ;-) As the other reviewer said, it's a tough title, but you can get cheats online if that's not your thing. I say you can't go wrong with Cybernator..

Cybernator is a rather awesome game. This game is probably one of the best mech games ever made, because of it's tight controls, amazing level designs, epic music, and challenge level. Seriously, this game is a total b*tch when it comes to difficulty, but it's one damn good game nonetheless.WHAT THE GAME IS: It's basically a side-scrolling shooter where you control a mech. The storyline is not explained well, but it appears to be the same old nonsense story about saving the planet. GRAPHICS: The 16-bit look shines brightly here, it looks fantastic most of the time, but some effects look a little pixelated. But you can't help but marvel at the detailed environments, cool mech designs, and cool explosions. MUSIC: It has a great epic feel, and fits in to near-perfection with this game and never really gets tiresome to hear. SOUND: Shooting, explosions, the annoying radio. GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is quite good, and the controls are very responsive. Though I did not like the fact your weapon has an energy bar, so every time it runs out you must wait for it to charge. This can be bothersome during some gameplay sequences, but luckily the gun charges quickly. Also, the difficulty level feels unbalanced. One level I can breeze through quickly, and the next can be ball-bustingly hard. This game is incredibly enjoyable, and is well worth an investment or at least a look. OVERALL: It's not the best side-scrolling shooter ever, but it accomplishes everything it should and then some. It is a great addition to any SNES library. But the bipolar difficulty and weapon-charging are annoying and frustrating. THE GOOD: Fast-paced mech shooting, great 16-bit graphics, epic music. THE BAD: Bipolar difficulty, weapon charging is annoying.

Yes, the game can be difficult, took me years to get good at it, but I feel this was mainly due to my *not knowing* of the L button, which can be quite useful throughout the game. Holding the L button enables you to lock your aim in one direction, I was dumbfounded when I made this discovery after all these years of knowing the game, then BOOM! Suddenly I'm that much better and had finally beaten the game. I'd say if you're a shoot-em-up kind of guy (gal?) then this will be your ticket home. Big robots, mechs, tanks, shuttle crafts, explosions, etc. The graphics are nice and colorful, the music is incredible, and the game gets better each time you return to face that long-awaited foe you had trouble getting past last time you were cruising through the game. A Konami classic that should not be missed.
