Biography

The world first got an eyeful of Idol - known to his parents as William Broad - when he was one of the “Bromley Contingent,” an assortment of nascent punks whose presence at the live shows of the then-unknown Sex Pistols was not unlike the Warhol Factory denizens who enlivened Velvet Underground performances, or the troupe of dancers led by sculptor Vito Paulekas who made magic in ... 3.0 out of 5 stars Himalayan Lamps September 22, 2007
By D. T.
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Yes, I would reorder from this seller. These Salt Lamps came very promptly, and they were in great condition. They were heavy, and a good size. I have been using them for about 2 weeks. I have not seen a change in my asthma, or allergies yet, but the rag weed, and other pollens are strong where I live. I have seen a difference in my babys allergies. I also take care of my nephew, and when he comes in the morning his nose is running, and after his afternoon nap by the lamp the drainage is almost gone. I love the calm amber light it gives off the most, I think even my husband is more relaxed when he's around it.(That makes it worth while to me!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Unappreciated Gem April 24, 2001
By George
Format:Audio CD
I have always loved BI's music and purchased Cyberpunk long after it was originally released. At first I was disappointed. However, the more you listen to this CD the more it grabs and hooks you like a bad habit. It is a theme oriented album of Billy's vision of a cyber world gone mad. There are songs that are shocking and haunting and others that are mood altering like Adam In Chains. Listen to Adam before your next important meeting or before you hit the first tee for your Club Championship. It is truly mesmerizing. Other favorite cuts are Then The Night Comes and Mother Dawn. My 9 yr. old daughter loves to sing along with the chorus on the uplifting Mother Dawn. This is definately BI's best work to date and I don't understand why so many critics hated this album. Probably because it only includes a couple of the normal screaming BI rock 'em, sock 'em tunes like Wasteland and Shock To The System. I like his departure from the norm and only wish there was more new tunes from this underappreciated artist.

I can't believe that some folks put down this album. This is a great cd that is one of Billy Idol's best and more importantly most consistent albums from song to song (along with Rebel Yell and Devil's Playground). Many of Idol's other albums have a couple hits but not a lot of great songs overall. And I know, since i've just recently gone thru all of his cds putting together a best of compilation. After hearing Cyberpunk, I will also put together a second compilation for my iTunes based around it. The intro to Adam in Chains is annoying but that's the only issue I have with the album and that part I simply edit out. Great, really underrated album, 'nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece October 28, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Out of 800 or so albums i own this one is among the best. Been listening to it regularly since it came out a decade ago. I listen to everything - every catagory you can think of. There are brillant albums in any genre. This is one of them. Interesting concept. Multifaceted musically. Increadible voice. Fascinating mix which constantly keeps my ears intersted. I'm not a dedicated Billy Idol fan. I sold Charmed Life a few weeks after i bought it. Rebel Yell has some great songs. Cyberpunk is some else - Billy Idol and Mark Younger-Smith created a musical conceptual and lyrical masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album with multiple uses! April 22, 2001
Format:Audio CD
Those of you who won't touch (even with a 10' pole) anything Techno-like, are truly missing out here. Yes, this album has a major Techno element, but the strong guitar gives it the hard edge that we've come to expect and want from Billy. People who criticize this album, are forgetting one of the things that Billy Idol is known for: He combines elements of Rock, Pop, Punk, and Dance. That's right, folks, Dance has been there right from the start. The difference with Cyperpunk, is that it was released in 1993, when the Dance music of choice was Techno. But this is much more than a Techno album. It's a concept album containing brilliant soundscapes, and Billy's vocals are no less than top notch. Also on this album, you will find some of his best lyrics.
So what are these multiple uses that I refer to in the heading? First of all, this CD would be a great choice to play at a club where people dance. However, ironicly, it's also a great album to relax or fall asleep to. Or perhaps you just feel like jumping in the car and going for some night driving, because that works, too! And last, but not least (probably not even last), this is a fantastic album to have sex to. Billy Idol's vocals are very sensual, and many of the rythms are erotic.
Unless you hate all Techno music with a passion, you'll want to have this gem in your collection. So don't leave Billy dancing with himself! Give it a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Idol's Best June 18, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is the most cerebral album Idol has ever made. I can't stop listening to it. Only 2 songs suck: The droning monotonous " Do You Want To Be Hypnotized?", and the maudlin politically correct ode to Rodney King, "Who Would Be King?"
The rest is sheer power rock. The kind that that makes you kick on the subwoofer and wake the neighbors.
The cover of Lou Reed's "Heroin" is worth the price of the album all on its own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Number 12 October 27, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Before this CD I had never listened to Billy Idol but I heard Cyberpunk on the advice of a reviewer. The message of the songs is that a growing number of people are being seduced by, and addicted to, the spurious pleasures of cyberculture. Along with the misleading dogmas (Adam in Chains) one can become blind. In Mother Dawn, Idol sees beyond the present darkness to a better time to come when the Son restores my sight. ALL RIGHT!!
