This is an amazing car seat.... if you can afford it. What makes this seat so amazing in my opinion? Safety safety safety.

As a police officer I have seen my fair share of car seats and this one offers safety features well beyond those of the American competition (Graco, Safety 1st, Britax). While their car seats are nice, the safety features of the Cybex Aton far outweigh the price difference. The Cybex offers an innovative "load leg" which in the event of a serious front end or rear end collision absorbs and distributes the force towards the floor of the vehicle. What does that mean? It means THAT force is not being absorbed by your precious baby's neck and spine. Additionally it prevents the car seat from rotating forward and thus keeps your child in the proper position in the event of a collision.

As most parents who have car seats know, it is nearly impossible to comfortably secure a car seat in the middle of the rear seat if you drive a sedan (plus the LATCH system is generally not located in the center seat of sedans) LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children and it features a place to anchor your car seat to the welded metal frame of your vehicle. There just isn't room for the driver and front passenger seat once you give the proper spacing to the car seat. If like me, you plan on positioning the car seat in the left or right rear passenger seat THIS car seat offers something called linear side impact protection. There is a little bar that flips up on the door side of the car seat which in the event there is a serious side impact collision (on the car seat side of the car). The LSP bar makes contact with the side of the car and again absorbs and distributes the energy to protect your baby.

Just had a big car accident yesterday, front impact with car traveling in opposite direction. my car was totaled. I had some bruises and my wife too. The baby did not receive a single scratch. Definitively would recommend this car seat. After the accident the plastic parts show the stress they were exposed to, the seat did a great job.

We bought this for our second son, while our first kiddo used a Graco Snugride 35 purchased new (circa 2010). Not sure if it's the kid or the seat - we will never really know, since there is no control group when it comes to kids, but they do have oddly similar temperaments - but our son in the Cybex loves his carseat, and our son in the Graco hated his (and I've heard that from other parents who bought a diff seat for their second child as well.) Suffice to say, we absolutely love this seat. It gets amazing safety ratings, was simple to install (which is important not only for convenience sake - if you can't install it correctly, then your seat is not as effective!) and it is really well made. The fabric feels much nicer that he scratchy polyester twill that other some other brands use, but it's still easy to clean. I've read complaints about the length of the sunshade, but that doesn't really bug me bc we usually throw one of those muslin blankets over him when he is sleeping, anyway. I was wary to buy because they are kind of hard to come by and I couldn't view it in person first - not even in los angeles, where usually I can find anything - but I'm so glad we took the leap. It's a great seat.

Wonderful seat. I love the safety feature of the load leg, the lightness of the carrier, and the newborn insert. The only feature I would like to see in a future model is a one handed adjustment of the handle. As it is currently, you need to reach over the seat and simultaneously release the handle catches on both sides (this makes it slightly awkward trying to get our newborn into/out of the seat when it is already in the car).

Other then that, I love this seat and would buy it again.

After a lot of research I chose this infant seat because it was light weight, took up less backseat space behind my tall husband, and it looks a lot classier than the typical American seat. That being said, after using it for many months I think it is over priced and not necessarily the best option. I would recommend this seat to those who really need the extra space in their car, or to those who are not on a budget and can afford the aesthetic splurge. See cons for reasoning.

Pros: Looks great (seat cushions are no more padded than other seats, but they do lay nicely and don't show wear as quickly), handle is fairly comfortable when dangled on arms, very safe and secure in car when installed properly. Easily adjusted straps, easy to get out of car, noticeably lighter weight than competitors/

Cons:
-Not compatible with most of the popular strollers, and those that offer the correct attachment system (MaxiCosi) are expensive and not often reviewed well. I think CityMini is the only exception, but not the stroller everyone wants. The limited stroller compatibility was a huge, huge bummer.
-Next issue is installation. This carseat cannot be correctly installed with the base in all vehicles. The leg only has a few adjustment settings and some are too short to reach the floor, and others push the base too high to meet the safe angle. It also cannot be installed in the middle seat of most cars due to the exhaust bump. I recommend testing this seat out at a store before ordering.
-The canopy is useless. I know everyone mentions this, but it's worth noting again. The canopy is so short that it won't even cover your baby's face until they are close to growing out of the seat. Additionally, mine broke after only a few uses. Pathetic.
