5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative and fun.
This is toy submarine disguised as a fish. The body twist is quite innovative and looks realistic enough in water. The waterproofing is decent. The battery requirement is modest. It is not bullet-proof, of course, as it is ultimately just a pool toy. The greatest concern has to be preventing water from getting into the electronic compartment, but so far I have not had any...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's fun... for the pool.
This is a pretty neat toy. However, don't buy it unless you have a swimming pool to use it in. It tends to "get away" from kids in a lake (a lesson we learned the hard way). Also, it does not have a disable control that would cause it to rise to the surface immediately... so if it get's out of range... she's going to the bottom. In a pool this is no problem. In a...

This is toy submarine disguised as a fish. The body twist is quite innovative and looks realistic enough in water. The waterproofing is decent. The battery requirement is modest. It is not bullet-proof, of course, as it is ultimately just a pool toy. The greatest concern has to be preventing water from getting into the electronic compartment, but so far I have not had any problem there. On the other hand, I fly model airplanes and helicopters in spare time, so my expectation on the longevity of the model may have been lower than that of an average consumer.

The propeller runs on four AA batteries or the equivalent rechargeable pack. There is not enough power to get the shark to high speed. But this is not a torpedo and racing is not the point. Sneaking up on unsuspecting victims and startling them with a r/c fish that looks real is great fun to little boys of any age.

By the way, the main battery uses a 2-pin JST connector, which is also common among 7.4V 2-cell Lithium-Polymer batteries used for R/C helicopters. I try an 800mAH one originally for E-Sky LAMA V4 RTF Coaxial Remote Controlled Helicopter (Blue Color) and it fits perfectly. This battery is similar to 7.4V 850mAh 15C High Rate Li-Poly LIPO Battery Pack for ESKY LAMA V4 Micro Helicopter, but I think any 7.4V Li-Po with JST and under 57mm long will work just fine.

In a lake, you may never find it again. Duh, right? Well, trying telling a kid that he can't use his super-cool remote control shark in the lake....

1.0 out of 5 stars Remote is not waterproof!!, August 15, 2009
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

No, the above reviewer is correct. It was not the drilling which caused the malfunction. Our RC shark stopped working the first time it was ever used, mysteriously. New batteries did not resurrect it. We did not need to drill to get into the battery compartment; for us, it opened easily with a few turns of the screwdriver.

After a couple of weeks, we were again at a swimming pool, and while the kids began to swim, we took apart the remote. The electrical circuits were all corroded due to having been used in water.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun toy, but not durable at all, June 19, 2011

I normally don't write reviews, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents because this toy completely died on me after a few times of use. I followed all of the care instructions. The shark worked great at first-- fun to control with very realistic motions. After a couple uses, the power button would not keep the shark on unless it was constantly depressed (I used a piece of tape). After that, the power button would not turn on the shark at all. I'm guessing the power-on mechanism is very fragile and not built to last, especially in water environments.

I am happy with this. I can sit by the side of the pool and swim it around and it looks surprisingly real with a little practice. Only issue with it is that it is somewhat fragile, and could be a little more waterproof. Not for small kids.

Its a little hard to maneuver but my son loves it. We tried it in hot tub, it should be easier in the summer when we set up our pool.

I bought this cool looking remote control shark and a hammerhead shark together by the same manufacturer. This Blue shark worked great out of the box in my pool, but died after that. I would not turn on anymore a couple days later. I replaced the batteries, but it just didn't work anymore. The Orange hammerhead shark also worked great the first time out, but then it just got stuck in reverse. I am trying to return both sharks now. These are great if you want to play with them...Once.

Used it three times in our pool. Always drained and dried it. Now even with new batteries, shark won't turn on... Unbelievable!
Went to Swimways site and they don't even sell it any more. Now have to find who is willing to help... Amazon or SW....

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor product, June 7, 2009

I would not recommend buying this product. First the battery compartment on the shark would not open. We spent hours (literally) trying to open it and finally ended up opening it with a drill. The shark worked nicely until my son went into the swimming pool with the remote (it is clearly stated on the box that the remote control is intended for use in the water). The remote control is definitely NOT waterproof! We could hear the water sloshing around inside the remote control and the product never worked after that. I expected a durable product for the price. On the up side Amazon handled the return very professionally. No problem getting my money back.
