4.0 out of 5 stars This book Rocks!, March 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cyborgs (Deadlands: Hell on Earth; PEG6012) (Paperback)
"Cyborgs" is an excellent addition to the Deadlands universe, as it adds an entirely new character class, as well as a whole bunch of new powers and such for harrowed characters. The book gives a ton o' info all at once, some of which is a tad hard to swallow, but all in all, this book rules.

This review is from: Cyborgs (Deadlands: Hell on Earth; PEG6012) (Paperback)
If you are trying to build up a Deadlands hell on earth collection to play or run a game this one is probably one of the first ones you should start with. It is very comprehensive covering how to create a harrowed, give a harrowed powers, turn a harrowed into a cyborg or 'can", and equipment that cans can use. It also has a very well written history describing how cyborgs came to be. It also has some of the best artwork in the Deadland's series.
As far as cyborgs themselves the book classifies three main type of cyborg playable characters. The infiltrator, a deader that is designed to look like a normal person for blending into enemy groups. The light-can, a deader that is designed as advanced soldiers that could take on entire enemy squads and scouting in environments that normal soldiers could survive. The heavy-can, a walking tank cyborg that could level a city. These characters are incredibly powerful and marshals should be aware of their capabilities, but they make great villains for npc's, and when pcs decide to play them they have wonderful hindrances called AI that make roleplaying them a unique experience. If there is a problem with cyborg characters it would be that they take about twice the time to create as a standard character. The book is one of my favorite for the settings and ups the stakes on any Deadlands campaign.
