5.0 out of 5 stars The endless cycle...you have lost again...
It's terribly sad that this excellent German band had such a short lifespan. And even more so, that their music is still unknown to 99% of Amazon customers. But the fruitful years of Dreadful Shadows come to a fine end with The Cycle, arguably the best album of their career (I can't say for myself, considering this is the only record I own by them, but it's in question...

3.0 out of 5 stars Why not
Fans of electro-gothic rock, wake up!
The cycle is a pretty good album, dark vibes, deep voices and tons of strings.
This album would find its place in between Paradise lost's Host, 69 EYES's blessed be and The Sisters of Mercy.
Definitly more electro than 69 eyes and certainly more exciting and heavier than paradise lost 's Host.
A pretty good...

It's terribly sad that this excellent German band had such a short lifespan. And even more so, that their music is still unknown to 99% of Amazon customers. But the fruitful years of Dreadful Shadows come to a fine end with The Cycle, arguably the best album of their career (I can't say for myself, considering this is the only record I own by them, but it's in question among cult fans). Their music resembles German brethren Love Like Blood, but with a slightly more metallic edge. Dark lyrics and dreary imagery soar over crunching guitars with occasional use of synthesizers. Their vocalist is one of the best of his kind, offering that deep-throated baritone voice that fans of gothic music will notice to be strikingly familiar (almost reminiscent of Peter Steele). The best songs of the Cycle are by far the intoxicating single "Futility", offering some beautiful female vocals; "Intransigence", by far the best gothic ballad of all time; "Vagrants in Space", a psychedelic number bound to infest itself in your head for hours on end and the bonus track "Twist in My Sobriety", finely covered with a catchy chorus. Fans of Love Like Blood, Anathema, the Sisters of Mercy and Type O Negative need look no further - allow yourself to be entwined in this cycle.

this is a very uniqe album. an exelent production, interesting, emotional lyrics and melodies. it is masterfully produced as well. not all of the songs are at the same level, still they all worth listening to. it is rare these days to find music one can actually feel echoing within. try listening to the samples above, most likely, you'll understand what i mean. this is good music.

this is the best cd of DS, and the last they did before disbanding. it's a shame that this great band never have the chance to be something big. if you have any taste for music you must have this!!!

A pretty good production and good vocals harmonies but nothing really new under the sun here.
As a more metal fan, I prefer from far any 69 eyes 's releases but consider THE CYCLE a plaisant goth album.
