5.0 out of 5 stars " Excellent, Intense, New Concept"................. April 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I usually don't read Y/A novels, but after reading one of this author's short stories, at the end, "Cycles", was a sneek peek, intriguing, and I couldn't pass it up...I was not disappointed, and I believe adults, looking for something different to read, would enjoy this too....Author, Lois D. Brown's, writting is excellent, she knows how to draw you in from page one, and keeps the intensity, all the way to the very end...The most important thing to me is the author's great characterization....That's what I look for in all the books I read...The entire concept to the plot was original, fascinating, and fresh......
This story is a woven mix of sci/fi, astronomy, genetics, medicine, ancient, Native American mythology, a little blood, and a corporate conspiracy thriller, that just worked perfectly together......This was a non-stop page turner for me.....

Renee Beaumont, is a 13 yr old girl , a tomboy, very mature for her age, like an "old soul"...But she is a rare, genetic anomaly, with an unknown blood type, that is discovered after an almost fatal accident...She doesn't understand all the fuss, by the doctors in the hospital....But she really doesn't know how special, and gifted she is.....

Dr Greg Dawson, is a medical research scientist, and a long time neighbor of the Beaumont's...He knows what Renee really is, and has spent 3 life cycles trying to come up with a cure and save her...Renee's condition starts to deteriorate rapidly, the closer a rare solar eclipse is upon the earth, called the,"Saros Cycle", which happens only every 18 years.......

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly entertaining and full of suspense! February 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
From the first page, CYCLES is blasting with action and suspense. It never stops or slows down until the end. Lois has written a very unique and intriguing read that many will love and enjoy. As you learn to know Renee and not only what she has came from, but about to go through, you can't help but soften your heart towards her.

It all started when Dr. Dawson needed to go out of town, leaving Renee tending to his horse and to lock up when she was through. Obviously, Dr. Dawson felt the need to protect his things well, because he had a very high powered security system installed for his numerous trips away. However, nobody seemed to ever know where he went. No sooner than he left, Renee heard people creeping around and talking about busting in. Ah, with a little smart thinking, Renee hopped on the back of Dr. Dawson's prized horse and timed it just right. As the doors broke open, she charged at them. It's when she fell off the horse that put her in critical condition.
Apparently, (and this is very, very odd I might add) Renee needed a blood transfusion. When her blood type was tested, it came back with very odd results. No one had ever seen anything like this before. She was going to die if she didn't get this blood but there was none to give. Suddenly, Dr. Dawson walks in, takes over and demands someone go to his house and bring the blood from his basement. He had taken it from her awhile back. Kept it there. Sounds creepy right? Hey, it saved her life!
Once fully recovered, Renee started realizing that things weren't adding up. Too many run arounds, too many secrets, too many hidden truths. She wanted answers. It became obvious that everyone around her, including her parents and her doctor, where keeping secrets. Secrets about her.

This book was strangely amazing and I was reluctant to read ia first, but Cycles turned out to be a great book! With all the twists and turns and it was never once at any point predictable and I first heard about this book when the author came to my school and talked about it and I was instantly intrigued! Thank you for giving the world such a great work! Can't wait to read the second one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cycles February 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When I read the synopsis of Cycles, I wasn't sure what I was in for once I started reading. Cycles blew me away! Cycles is a beautifully written blend of the scientific and spiritual which explode into the life of a 13 year old girl named Renee. I don't want to give much away about the plot because this is definitely one you need to read - pronto! Renee's life is falling apart around her and she doesn't know who to trust anymore, except for her best friend Sam and an older woman, Gamma Didi. From ancient American Indian legends to eclipses to genetics to the 'fountain of youth', Cycles is wonderfully original and eerily realistic. Ms. Brown will keep you entranced from the first page...

TOTALLY not what I expected. PLEASANTLY surprised and CAN'T WAIT to read the next in the series. Who would have thought I would not have been able to put down another young adult fiction within the same week?! I seriously was impressed that I could not stop reading until I was done, and surprising to me I could really connect with 13 year old Renee, but then again, she did have an old soul. I was constantly on the edge wondering what was going to happen next to Renee, her neighbor doctor, and her best friend Sam with nearly every chapter! I was totally thrown off when the story unfolded its pieces because I don't believe one piece was what I really expected it was going to be...and that ending?! Oh you better believe I want to get a copy of the next book!
