5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Light, September 18, 2008
This review is from: CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Triple LED Bike Light with Stem-Mount Li-Ion Battery (Sports)
I bought this light after researching many other lights. I first saw it at Performance bikes and its light weight is what first caught my attention. Added to that, it gives off so much light my boyfriend thought I was a car pulling into the driveway when I got home from work on my bike. The battery is small and fits on the limited space my stem offers and it charges in only three and a half hours. I ride a cyclocross bike as a commuter and this light works excellent for what I need. My boyfriend is thinking of competing in a 24 hour race and this light would be perfect for that. It has four settings, the brightest is very bright and the weakest is still bright. You can clearly see potholes and junk in the road ahead of you at a good distance. Fast riding is safer with this light at night. Plus, if you want to be obnoxious, this little light has flash and strobe settings. Cars will definitely see you coming. Maybe even mistake you for a motorcycle. Overall, this light is worth the money and I'd buy it over any of NiteRiders lights, of which I also looked at the bike shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall Excellent for brightness, light weight, cost, December 24, 2008

This review is from: CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Triple LED Bike Light with Stem-Mount Li-Ion Battery (Sports)
I use the Cygolite TridenX Triple LED Li Ion light on my helmet with the Niterider Trinewt on my handlebar. The Cygolite TridenX light housing is one of the lightest and puts out a relatively more focused beam which helps to illuminate down long straight fast downhills. The light weight of the light makes it easier on those 2+ hour night rides. Ideal for helmet application. The NiteRider Trinewt which I use on my handlebar is heavier but puts out a slightly broader light beam which illuminates the trail immediately in front of the wheel and around narrow radius turns in the mountains or switchbacks. This combination gives me the benefit of both a dispersed beam for close up peripheral vision (NiteRider Trinewt) and distant illumination (Cygolite Triden X). Most serious mountain bike riders doing intermediate or harder level trails at night will tell you that both a helmet light AND handlebar light with at least 2.5 hrs runtime EACH is a must. I ride with a guy who has a Dinotte 600/200 helmet & handlebar setup but its light output is narrower and more focused than the NiteRider/Cygolite combo. Though the Dinotte setup works well and I'd be happy with that setup too. Niterider and Cygolite can be found online for much, much less than MSRP. I've found Dinotte prices are more fixed. Hope this review helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative, compact, reliable, June 13, 2010

This review is from: CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Triple LED Bike Light with Stem-Mount Li-Ion Battery (Sports)
I am commuting on(ir)regular basis between home and office on my road bicycle in Tokyo.
(30+ km one way)
As it can get late at times at work I wanted a light that shows me the way
(rather than just indicating to others where I am).

The Cygolite Tridenx -team has uploaded a very compelling 3min video on Youtube.
After you have seen this killer video the choice is clear.

So I went for the Cygolite Tridenx and I am not disappointed.
This light is so much more than I bargained for.
No more guessing if "somebody/something" is in your way.

A close friend said s(he) saw me coming from 300m away.
The first comment from the same person was "Thanks to you, I am blind now" ;-).

The combination of wide and narrow lenses distributes the light nicely for near and far and leaves the beam wide enough to see the full road not just a spot.
That was also reason why I dint opt f.e for Ay-Ups V Twin Sports, because two spots is not the same as the combination of wide and narrow lenses.
But that's something you will only really know "after" you already bought it.

Anyway so far I am happy with the product.
The light and battery weight 250gr., they are always mounted on my helmet and I don't really think about it anymore.
That means they are light enough for me.

I also do appreciate the thoughtful packaging. The box is just big enough to hold everything and not artificially over-sized.
(reduces shipping cost)
The included accessory is also very welcome (bag, adhesive foam etc.)
The mounting strap itself could be better but is doing its job.

Summary:

Overall this lighting system is doing a terrific job.
It definitely takes the guessing work out of your nightly cycle trips.
Also keep in mind cars and trucks can not pretend anymore they didn't see you coming.

Because the light is so bright, all I really need is the lowest settings.
This gives me 12 hours runtime max. - and means I don't have to charge daily.

Suggestion: For future version a remote option for the handle bar would be terrific.
This would allow the Off-Road riders to increase/decrease light easily.

!! Overall I found this a superb product !!

Update: I just came back from a four day tour (570 km). Part of it I was riding on a cycle road along a forest (at night). There is no way that I could have done without the light !! I am not easily scared but riding at night near a silent dark forest definitely has its own challenges. Its unbelievable what wide and bright beam the cygolite has. It's definitely good to have this friend with you at all times.

4.0 out of 5 stars CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Score One for Customer Support, September 22, 2009

This review is from: CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Triple LED Bike Light with Stem-Mount Li-Ion Battery (Sports)
Like others who have bought the CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion, I found it to be bright, light, and right for commuting on dark streets. After about two weeks, it got stuck on dim, no matter what mode was selected. Talked to Burt at Cygolite, checked the battery, etc., then sent it back. They replaced the circuit board and shipped it back the following day. Light has worked fine ever since (about two weeks).

Were it not for the failure, I would give it 5 stars. Customer support was courteous and quick. Would recommend it to anyone needing a serious headlight.

I purchased this light back in October of 08 and used it through the winter for my commute to work. This light is amazing. The run time is about 3 hours on a single charge which is way more than I need for my commute.

It is very bright. A driver would have to blind to not see this thing coming. Also in the dusk and pre-dawn hours, where you are most at risk, the blink features really make you stand out. I felt very safe with this light.

It is very light weight, and it installed onto my bars in a couple minutes. The mounting bracket is offset so when you attach it to the bar next to the stem, the light actually sits over the middle of the stem. Some people in other reviews did not care for this feature. I have had no complaints or problems with the configuration. The clamp is secure and has not wandered or come loose the entire winter commute season.

The battery status indicator is easy to ready at a glance. Just look at how many little blue leds are still lit.

The light head feels solidly constructed. The look and feel of the unit is great. Plus it just looks really good on the bike.

I would recommend this light to anyone. Ya, I know it is pricey. But if you need to see, or be seen, this is the light. On the road or on a trail this light will get the job done.

The TridenX has been great for night rides this winter! It's very bright, with a very broad, even beam. There are no 'hot spots'. That said, I think the light appears to be dimmer than other 600 lumen units because it spreads out over such a wide area - it doesn't throw light as far as a more concentrated beam does. Oh, and the tiny battery is GREAT (I'm coming from one of the old NiCad water bottle batteries).

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little light for street night riding, July 6, 2009
This review is from: CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Triple LED Bike Light with Stem-Mount Li-Ion Battery (Sports)
I'm not a mountain or racing bike enthusiast. I'm just an ordinary bike rider that enjoys riding my bike for pleasure and using it to get around in the French Quarter when I'm at my condo in New Orleans. I tried the Planet Bike 1 watt blaze but in my opinion it's just not enough light output for night riding (although I use it in the flashing mode during daytime rides to be seen). What I like about the TridenX 600 is that it works as a really good all around headlight. The light has three LED's. The two outside Led's provide lighting for distance illumination and the center LED has a fresnel lens and provides a wide lighting beam that provides good lighting directly in front and on the sides of my bicycle. Frankly I would not buy anything less than the TridenX for night riding. I don't consider it over-kill at all. I also considered the mitycross 350 but Cygolite's customer service recommended the TridenX for its ability to provide lighting directly in front of the bike which was one of my requirements for bicycle lighting.

Got it very fast one day early thanks amazon. Great light even walking mode is bright. 290g is lite, you can mount the battery and light on the helmet but i keep the battery in my camelbak. This Light Floods up to about 40 to 50 feet.

Update: Its Great!!. Now I keep this light on my bicycle handlebars, what a great flood light for your peripheral vision and I mounted a beam light on to my helmet the combo of beam and flood are Great. Now I can go very fast down hills at night on my MTB on the single track trails and the fire roads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Bright & Well Made!, September 14, 2010

This review is from: CygoLite TridenX 600 LED Li-Ion: Triple LED Bike Light with Stem-Mount Li-Ion Battery (Sports)
This is an amazing little bike light. Gone are the days of the giant/heavy batteries and bulky low output bulbs. Here Are some things I really love about this light:

1) Intense light @600 Lumens! The two outter LED's are projection focused for distance. The inner/middle LED has a wide beem that lights up the path immediately in your direction of travel as well as lighting up your peripheral areas You can see the beems project onto a surface at 30-45 feet in bright daylight. In the dark, it easily lights up your path. I feel more than comfortable riding at 20-25+ speeds.
2) The battery is tiny! I was concerned by pictures that I reviewed, that the battery might be to long for my stem. The dimentions are: 1 3/8" thick, 3 3/8" long, and 1 3/4" wide. No mounting problems whatsoever.
3) 2.5 hours of life on High and 12 hours on low is more than my hobby will ever need.
4) With a total weight of 230 grams, this weighs in at just a hair over half a pound. That's weight I can live with!
5) An intelligent rapid charger (with RED/GREEN LED charge indicator) prevents overcharging/damaging your battery. When your battery is full the light turns green and the juice stops flowing.
6) Instructions: The manual is detailed, easy to follow, and concise. If there is something you need to know about mounting, operating, or caring for your TridenX...it's in there.
7) The S.O.S. setting flashes for 100+ hours. A nice feature if you have a catastrophic "dismount" in a remote area.
8) Cost: At $300, This was literally hundreds less than similar output/time lights that I looked at.

Note 1: I ride with a helmet mounted spot light for "look around" visibility/safety. This really helps when you're on a windy trail and your mounted light only points in the direction of travel.

Note 2: The light does put off some heat, so make sure you don't store it until the temps cool, and the manual states "If you are stationary for more than 10 minutes, turn it off". The aluminum housing makes a great heat sink, but it only works effectivly if air is traveling over its surface.

This is going to be an awesome season for night rides!

Great product all around!

This is a nice light for the money. The handle bar mount could be a little more versitile, because when I mount it on my handle bars it does not shine directly in front of me due to not having straight handle bars. Otherwise the light shines extremely bright and it is easy to change the settings. The unit feels a little heavy when using it as a helmet mounted light. The battery charges and runs just as explained in the specs. I love the small bettary also, because it does not take up so much room on the bike and it is not noticable in my camelbak when the light is helmet mounted.
