Cynthia Hart's Victoriana Calendar 2010

I'm not sure when Cynthia Hart first started producing the VICTORIANA calendar but I know I first bought mine for the year 1989. The 2010 calendar has the same quality and beauty as its predecessors. As usual each month has a theme and January begins with pigs. While I think swine are a new subject for the calendar, eating pork on New Year's is supposed to bring luck, so hopefully hanging this calendar on January 1, 2010 will make an auspicious year for everyone.

January's pigs are followed by a traditional Valentine Day motif for February. March is spring like with butterflies predominating and children, pansies and other flowers playing supporting roles. April brings bunnies and eggs followed by babies and young children for Mother's Day and May. June comes in with roses and other ornate Victorian themed pictures. July shows the bounty from gardens with fruits and vegetables fancifully sprouting human faces. August will please feline lovers with its many cats and the little girls that love them. September is particularly lavish with a fancy back to school theme. Black cats, mice, jack-o-lanterns, spiders and some beautiful autumn flowers herald October. November features old fashioned travel scenes (visiting relatives for Thanksgiving?) highlighted by lovely chrysanthemums and December is appropriately lush with a traditionally clad Santa, toys, and other signs of the festive season.

As usual a small 24 page "birthday book", a year at a glance standup calendar and four Victorian style postcards for use at Valentine's Day, Easter, Christmas and a birthday are included. Major holidays for the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland are marked on the wall calendar along with the more well known Jewish holidays. Phases of the moon are not included. The 2010 Victoriana calendar is a beautiful way to keep track of dates that will add joy each month of the year.

It's getting toward late August. Time for back to school buying and my annual purchase of Cynthia's Hart's Victoriana Calendar which has been gracing my kitchen wall since 1988. In recent years some months of the beautiful calendar have been a little "out there" for some people's taste. I believe last January's featured pigs which are not everyone's favorite symbol and a couple of Augusts ago there was a naked little girl featured among some beach scenes which made even me a little uncomfortable. And I recall some Octobers have had clowns and jack in the boxes as a focus, creatures I find much more creepy than amusing. Thankfully all twelve months of 2011 feature lovely motifs that should suit everyone's fancy.

January starts with cozy indoor scenes of children with their cats and dogs. Some of the kids (and animals) seem to be taking some type of tonic or medicine which leads me to wonder if the pictures originally appeared on calendars or advertisements sponsored by pharmacists or patent medicine sellers. February is pure Victorian Valentine's Day with an appealing boy and girl at the center writing messages to each other on their school slates. March focuses on pretty pansies, lovely little girls and other spring scenes. April is Easter themed (the holiday is very late in 2011 - April 24) with lots of bunnies, eggs, and cute kids. As usual May references Mother's Day and focuses on playful little ones enhanced by some beautiful pink roses. June brings young couples and assorted posies, cameos and other pretty things. July celebrates bounty from agriculture with lots of healthy looking vegetables, poultry and farm animals. August is very romantic with several happy couples, many flowers and a well dressed pair of lovers in a lavishly decorated antique car as the central image. September is back to school time so lots of children are shown as well as the quote "A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." October is mostly black and orange with some often used Halloween characters in silhouettes as well as pumpkins and autumn flowers. November focuses on traditional Thanksgiving themes with several turkeys both cooked and uncooked featured as well as fruit, happy families and even a Pilgrim and a Native American. And December brings a rather skinny Santa in white robes though he does have a bag of toys on his back, a long white beard and some adoring children circling him to make him familiar to modern folks. Red roses and traditional December holiday season symbols cover the rest of the month's two pages.

As always some notes on the origin on the images used are included on the calendar's back two pages. Almost all Western holidays are marked but I have always regretted the Victoriana calendars don't include moon phases. As usual some Victorian themed seasonal postcards are included as well as a datebook and a standup year at a glance calendar. If you are in the habit of buying this quality calendar you won't want to miss the lovely 2011 edition.

I recently bought Cynthia Hart's Victoriana Calendar 2011 Amazon.com. I am very pleased with it. The price and quality is excellent. I first find out about Ms. Hart's products from my Aunt, who last year send me one of her beautiful, victoriana christmas cards. So, I started looking for her products on-line and find her website that mentioned she made calendars and that I could find them on Amazon's website. I was so excited when I received it. I now plan to buy her Calendar every year.

This was a nice transaction. The Victorian Calendar arrived quickly and was bound securely for mailing. The calendar is in excellent shape. I would definitely buy from this dealer again and definitely recommend the seller to all who are interested.

I haven't purchased them yet but I will be in September like I have done every year since the very beginning. I'm not quite sure what year was the beginning but I think it was around "1980" something. I use one for home and one for my cubicle at work. I am so happy to have read from the previous comment that the desk calendar has been included for 2010 because last year it wasn't.

Lifting the lavender cover of the 2011 Victoriana Calendar by Cynthia Hart, one encounters a pet-themed tableau, with dogs and cats -- the pets most beloved by the Victorians -- dominating. Against a yellow-striped background a blonde girl cradles a cat in her arms like a baby while her little sister or friend pours out some medicine for kitty to take. From January's charming scene one moves to February's, which is most unusual; in place of the expected hearts-and-roses tableau is one featuring ventriloquist's dummies(!), in addition to red valentine hearts. The most beautiful scenes are those for March (a double portrait of two lovely ladies, framed by purple pansies and violets and green leaves), August (a young couple in an early automobile adorned with flower garlands), November (a turkey surrounded by ripe fruit and pumpkin-colored roses and bows), and December (playful children encircling a Victorian Santa Claus in white, who stands against a background of wine-and-gold brocaded fabric and red roses). The collection of dye-cut postcards Hart encloses with the calendar includes cards for Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine's Day.

i love this calendar. i buy it every year because its so flowery and pretty. i really like it.

I bought this for my mother who has a victorian house and the calendar is lovely! The extras in the package make this even more special. I would recommend to anyone who decorates in this style.

Each year my friends receive the gift of exceptional art work and extra inserts of the day book, postcards including Christmas, Valentines, and other holiday cards. Also included is a stand up 12 month on one page calendar which most of us use by the computer. How nice it is to look at each month and spot small treasures hidden among the antique fine art prints. If you enjoy beautiful antique jewerly, prints and flowers you will love the calendar. When the year is over I use mine for art projects. I have always been very pleased with each year. Enjoy!
