Product Description

** BUYER NOTE** THIS 2nd PRESSING AND ALL SUBSEQUENT PRESSINGS IS IN A FOUR PANEL DIGI-PAK AND DOES NOT CONTAIN THE 'POP-UP FIGURE' BUT WILL INCLUDE THE BONUS TRACK "ROCK BEAST (DEATH CZAR REMIX)" NOT AVAILABLE ON THE INITIAL CD PRESSING OR ANY OTHER FORMAT. When soon-to-be-renowned Boston hip-hop duo 7L & Esoteric collaborated with the Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck on the title track to 7LES's debut EP Speaking Real Words in 1999, the timing was perfect. The upstart duo was building a serious buzz on the East Coast and beyond, while Deck was still winning praise for his gold-selling solo disc Uncontrolled Substance. As flashy pop-oriented rap was pumped on commercial radio stations, their natural chemistry and simpatico skills shone as a beacon to real hip-hop fans, a base of listeners who were soon asking about their next musical summit. 14 years later, the hunger for sharp lyrics and head-snapping beats hasn't dissipated. In the face of the ever-worsening status quo of watered-down and vapid radio rap songs, the call for something real has only gotten stronger, and once again the time is right for a call to action for someone or something to come in and send wack rappers running for the hills in fear. Enter CZARFACE, the upcoming, uncompromising full-length album from Inspectah Deck and 7L & Esoteric. Not surprising, respect for real hip-hop runs deep, and CZARFACE brings an army with it consider the star-studded guest list which includes Roc Marciano, Action Bronson, Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks,) Oh No (Gangrene,) Mr. MFN eXquire and Deck's fellow Wu-Tang Clansmen Ghostface Killah and Cappadonna. Aside from one track blessed by the almighty DJ Premier, production on CZARFACE belongs exclusively to DJ 7L, who provides the musical backbone which holds the album together. His ability to craft a hip-hop sound that's current and exciting with a classic feel left Deck impressed: "This is one of the first albums I've heard in a while that gives you so many different feels. You hear the '80s hip-hop style, '80s R&B and rock combined with what's going on now. That's creating something new, in my opinion." A collaboration this big is bound to catch some attention, as it has from MISHKA NYC artist Lamour Supreme, who penned the eye-popping Jack "King" Kirby inspired cover art for CZARFACE.

Review

Czarface doesn't fall short of what it wanted to accomplish-knocking the chumps out the ring. It doesn't pretend to deliver positive messages for the kids or even tell heart wrenching stories about the hood. Plain and simple, 7L masterminded sinister beats while Esoteric and Inspectah Deck recruited some fellow emcees to show the potential of the often-mislead art of lyricism can sound like. Long live, Czarface. --The Source

The Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck, along with fabled Bostonians 7L & Esoteric, stumbled upon a time machine, and instead of busting a cap in Hitler, hooking up with Marilyn Monroe, or, investing stock in Apple, they chose to return to the 1-9-9-9. And their warped, sample-heavy captain's log has taken on the form of CZARFACE. --Xxl

If this record came out in '94-'95 it would've went 2X platinum.

Sick album cover, sick features, sick beats, sick lyrics, sickness. Just try to listen to it and not nod your head.

02 Air 'Em Out - 8/10: Drums are awesome on this beat, Lil' Fame sample on the chorus fits perfectly. Eso's rap is on point.

03 Cement 3's - 8/10: Crazy flow and lyrics on this one, awesome use of ODB sample. Roc Marciano sounds great over this beat. Beat is a little stale and repetitive.

04 Czar Refaeli - 10/10: I've been bangin this joint since it leaked onto Utube. This song fits the whole Superhero theme perfectly with an oldschool bassline and dusty drums. This beat fits Deck perfectly. Eso steals the show lyrically with this track, spitting a violent verse.

05 Rock Beast - 10/10: Another solid banger, the beat really makes this song. Both rappers hit hard on this one, definitely one to repeat.

06 Savagely Attack - 8.5/10: Great flow all around. Ghost sounds real pumped over the beat, reminiscent of his Ironman days.

07 Marvel Team-Up - 10+/10: So far this is my favorite track, sounds like a blunted-out Cypress Hill track. This beat is so sick, I love it. Eso and Deck go back and forth, sounds great.

08 It's Raw - 10/10: Action Bronson! This guy is the man! The Bobby Flay of rap. Again, beat is sick...7L did amazing things on this album.

09 Let it Off - 10/10: DJ Premier! Wasn't expecting this, beat is great - no surprise. Lyrics are on point. The beat switches up during the chorus and is awesome

10 World War 4 - 7/10: This song has a Masta Killa - No Said Date vibe to it, not a huge fan but it's listenable. Samples are funny.

Isn't it nice when you get random collab albums from dope Hip Hop artists? Better yet, isn't it nice when it actually works out? Sadly that's not always the case, but thankfully CZARFACE proves to be a solid effort from Inspectah Deck and the Boston duo 7L & Esoteric. Now this isn't the first time these two have linked up. Inspectah Deck made an appearance on 7L & Esoteric's debut EP Speaking Real Words, but they haven't done anything since then.

I remember reading somewhere that the CZARFACE character was created to "save Hip Hop." A cool idea in theory, but that has to be this album's weakest element. It never really expands on the concept. Now it doesn't ruin the experience, but it would have been more enjoyable if they would've fleshed out the character. Instead, majority of the album is just Esoteric, Inspectah Deck, and the guest MC's spitting verses. There's a few comic book references scattered on here, mostly from Esoteric, but nothing too major. Still, it's enough to keep things interesting.

Thankfully they kept the guests short on here. In addition to the main gunners you get appearances from Roc Marciano, Oh No, Ghostface Killah, Action Bronson, Mr. MFN Exquire, Cappadonna, and Vinnie Paz. I have nothing against any of these features, and they all did their thing, but I do feel like Roc Marciano and Action Bronson were a little misplaced on here. Majority of the album hits hard, but these two have a very laid black style that feels a little off. The same can be said about Cappadonna, but to a lesser extent. Nothing against either of them, but they just lacked the intensity that was present from the rest of the MC's.

Production wise this album is insanely dope.

This cd is good, but that's it. It has about 6 good songs, the rest are just okay. Has like an old school 99 flow to it which I like. This is not a bad review I just don't know how 40+ people gave it 5 starts. I like the comic book them it was cool. I thought the references could have been just a little better. But overall it's a 4. Better than what's on the radio now days.

Hip Hop IS Alive! After growing up in the 90s when real hip hop thrived I began to lose interest in what I feared was a dying art. As garbage was flooding the market like drake, 50 cent, pitbull, flo rida, and lil wayne with lack luster repetitive lyrics and beats I found myself digging in the crates as apposed to expanding my collection. Czarface is the resurrection and proof that hip hop can never die. With witty fun lyrics and head nodding beats this is a must have for any fan of true hip hop.

Def a good album. I would recommend this album to anyone. The track with Ghostface is easily the best one. "It's Raw" with Action Bronson is also a good one. "Rock Beast, Dead Zone" etc.... There are lots of good tracks on the album. Solid album. Don't hesitate to purchase.
