All-in-all a pretty solid first showing,
By
This review is from: Déjà dead (Mass Market Paperback)
My husband and I picked up a Kathy Reichs audio book to listen to on a long drive this summer. Neither of us had been exposed to Reichs before and we were both pleasantly surprised. So, when I had the chance to buy all of Kathy Reichs' books to date at one shot I didn't hesitate. I started with Reichs' very first book: Deja Dead. I got off to a slow start...was having trouble getting into the plot and adjusting to her writing style. Eventually, I became engrossed and ultimately enjoyed the book. Deja Dead is a pretty standard murder/suspense novel...no twists or turns that haven't been done before. And, although I assume nothing imperative was written in French, not having even a basic understanding of French made the French sprinkled throughout the book distracting. Reichs also used a lot of unnecessary analogies which added to the wordiness of her descriptions of people, places, and things. But, all-in-all it was a pretty solid first showing and I'm looking forward to reading her next book: Death Dujour.
