About the Author
Ms. Kim L. Frazier is a native Washingtonian and first time author, with her book, D.C. Hand Dance, Capitol City Swing. She's an avid hand dancer with over 30 years experience. With her partner, she was the 1994-1995 D.C. Citywide Hand Dance Champion, the 1994 Baltimore vs. D.C. Hand Dance Champion; and winner of the 1994 Duke Ellington Swing Dance Competition in Washington D.C. In 2003, she won second place in the Swing Fling, Hand Dance category. In 1996, she co-founded and directed one of the first synchronized hand dance troupes in the Washington/ Baltimore area, "In Sync Hand Dance Troupe", who went on to win a prestigious local title, Entertainers of the Year. She is the current Co-founder-Director-Choreographer for the Freestyle Dancers, a high energy, high performing, "Old Skool" dance team. She was Emcee for the National Hand Dance Association City Wide Hand Dance Competitions in 2001 and 2002 and the Emcee and judge for the MidAtlantic Dance Jam in 2004 and 2005. Ms. Frazier has been featured in the Afro-American Newspaper, the Washington Post, the Prince Georges Gazette, the Port of Harlem Magazine and on Amazon.com. She has appeared on Channel 7 Goodmorning Washington, Channel 20, Making A Difference with Lisa Weir and on Radio One, the Coaches Show and the Moon Man Show. She has guest lectured and served as keynote speaker on Swing Dance and D.C. Hand Dance, at the University of the District of Columbia, Anne Arundel Community College, Annapolis Md. and the Prince Georges County National Capitol Parks and Planning Commission. Her love of the dance and appreciation of its cultural and historic significance, motivated her to document the art form so that it can be enjoyed and appreciated by audiences today as well as future generations.
