Deutsch Musik,
By Michael Crofts (Findlay, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: D (Audio CD)
GUTEN TAG!! I am in German II at my local High School (Findlay High School, Ohio) and my German class is absolutely obsessed with German Music. Every Friday we devote an entire class to Deutsch Musik. You could not find a more enthused group of Americans about German Music. Most of the people are particularly fond of "Deutschland" by Die Prinzen. It seems ever since we heard the song in German I, most people walk into my German II class on Fridays saying "DEUTSCHLAND!" or something to that extent. I really enjoy German music, and I really like this C.D. In fact, I had never heard German Rap until i came into class a few weeks ago. There are many other great German bands too. I would suggest Die Fantaschien Vier for anyone who likes Die Prinzen. Die Fantaschien Vier (or "The Fantastic Four") is a group like Die Prinzen. Both groups are good for people who appreciate Deutsch Musik! Auf Wiedersehen und Bis Spater!!

Best CD from the Old Country (BRD/DDR),
By Charles R. Braga (Newmarket, NH United States) - See all my reviews

A compilation of catchy tunes with always interesting and socially critical lyrics. If you like German Pop, you can't go wrong. These guys are the best at it. If it weren't for me humming 'Deutschland' while painfully biking 30 kilometres a day in Berlin, I may not have survived. Insightful, interesting, self-effacing, irreverent, all with a great tune. Zweiflos prachtvoll; höchste Qualität und einfach zu genießen. Kauf' mal sofort!

So great!!!!!!!,

This is really an excellent album. It sounds a little bit different from their former albums, but the songs are great, and most of the lyrics are interesting and fun. Sie, one of the best, has a very charming rhythm along with very clever lyrics. Deutschland is simply great, Thema nummer 1, Berlin, Königin, Doktor, Ungerrechtigkeit are very good. Their style in this album changes a little bit, they don't sound like Die Prinzen tou listen to in songs like Gabi und Klaus, Millionär or Küssen verboten, but the change is perfectly worth. Definetly a must have album.

A New Style for Die Prinzen,
By A Customer
This review is from: D (Audio CD)
Die Prinzen definitely take on a new style in this CD. The first song, "Popmusik", in the European style of discotheque, is far removed from what die Prinzen have previously done. Many of the other songs emulate the current pop music styles in the U.S. Take the song "Mama" for an example, it definitely sounds like "La Vida Loca" in some places. "Deutschland" is a great anthem song, but it has a very nasty four-letter word in the middle of it that seems out of place for this song and really wrecks the effect of the song. I really like the album, but I only gave it a 4 stars because of the few vulgar words in some of the songs that were out of place and did not really seem necessary and because the style for some of the songs did not seem original. Despite these two things, some of the songs contained such as "Ungerechtigkeit" and "Doktor" contained really interesting humor. This is a good album, but to fully enjoy it you must understand German, or have somebody who knows German explain it to you.

Deutsch,
By Jessica (Indiana) - See all my reviews

I am a German student in my local High School, and I love the language. One of the ways my teacher uses to teach us is listining to music. I am a big music listener, and I love alot of music. We have listened to Deutschland a few times between class and club and I loved it. So I asked what the name was and I wanted to buy it. It has great music and ways to learn a new language!

Great album by this Dresden-based vocal group. With choir-like harmonies they sing about everyday things, Germany, Berlin and more.
Smart tongue-in-cheek lyrics, cool arrangements, it's hard not to stop listening to the whole album. Die Prinzen are the real kings!

A 'theme' album!,

I tend to be behind in my Prinzen collection, but now I've got this CD in my collection. I consider it Die Prinzen's most brilliant CD up to that date. They begin with 'Popmusik' which gives their positive opinion about top 40 music. In fact, they even sing snippets of many pop hit tunes. Recognize any of them? Then, they spend the rest of the CD throwing in various musical styles, more snippets of previous well know pop songs, lyrics that remind you of previous pop songs, recognizable background rhythms to original melodies and even a reference to a classic Die Prinzen tune. Every decade from the 60's (maybe even the 50's) on is represented. 'Thema Nummer 1' is itself a wonderful original piece with clever lyrics, but it's also a reminder of the main theme of this CD. Relisten to this CD in a new unit of time. See if you can catch all the popmusik references within. My favorite referenceis not even a pop hit. It's their own national anthem!

I don't own this cd, but...,

...when die Prinzen say "schwein, schwein" at the end of "Deutschland" they're not saying "pig." "Schwein" also stands for "luck" in German so they're actually referring to having good luck.
