An Undeniable Masterpiece,

I own 1000's of CD's and this is always in my top ten. Seeing it now available on CD and with bonus tracks was an incredible gift. Dumptruck writes about real world situations and goes into incredible detail weaving a tapestry of evocative feelings, which creates a magic not heard in music anywhere else. The guitar sound is incredible and is in perfect harmony with the lyrics. This CD has them playing to their strengths, hitting on all cylinders from beginning to end.

This review is from: D Is for Dumptruck (Audio CD)
I was one of maybe 3 people I knew in college who loved Dumptruck. Too bad for such an influential band. They emerged from the first round of Boston post punk bands (i.e. Mission of Burma), but came too early to ride the wave of the round (i.e. Pixies, Throwing Muses, etc.). They had a sound that truly influenced a lot of bands down the line yet they never got the creds they should have. Make a Move has the quiet urge of Yo La Tengo, Repetition reminds me of the Feelies, and all the other tracks are great. I still have the orginal release on vinyl, and the bonus tracks make the re-purchase worthwhile. Even if you have not heard of Dumptruck (or their similarly great friends Big Dipper), if bands like Mission of Burma, Volcano Suns, Feelies, Yo La Tengo, Velvet Underground,Replacements, REM (the rock albums), or even twee bands of Scotland (Belle & Sebastian rock cuts, The Delgados, Arab Strap) mean anything to you this is a must buy. Great harmonies, awesome writing, very talented musicianship.
