The 'Godfather of Minneapolis Punk' is back,

The reclusive Minneapolis punker is back with his first new stuff since his '49:00 Minutes' demos, and this time around he is having some fun with cheesy old chestnuts like "Away in a Manger" and "Streets of Laredo" (which are both given the sloppy deconstructions that Westerberg usually reserves for his alter-ego "grandpaboy"). It's nice that he tossed them in for free with his new single "D.G.T (aka. 'Damned Good Time"). Hopefully this is a sign that a new Westerberg full release is on the way. This is highly recommended for fans of Westerberg's old Replacements material, as well as for fans of his solo work and "grandpaboy" stuff. For 79 cents for the MP3 downloads, you can hardly go wrong here.

It is Paul Westerberg. If you know him you know you should buy it. If you don't know him, come up off that 79 cents and get to know him. You'll have a DGT.

Streets of Laredo is a spectacular Westerberg re-imagining of the cowboy classic (a cowboy cliche if it didn't have such a rich pedigree). This is an instant favorite in my collection.
D.G.T is a fairly trademark rocker that really makes me want to grab a beer. It is indeed a damn good time. Away In A Manger is a honkey-tonk/punk send up of the Christmas classic. It's not ironic, it's not mocking, it's just fun. For the love of all that is good, if you have eighty or so pennies to rub together, you know who Paul Westerberg is, and still dare pay for music, buy this download. |
