Solid Stable Router, but Totally Misunderstood, July 1, 2007
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
Like everyone else, when I first installed the router I was having difficulties. I was having dropped connections, sometimes the SSID was not broadcasting, and a bunch of other stuff. I was about to re-box the thing and send it back, but I decided to fool around with the settings thinking I could not make the situation any worse. I remembered when I activated my DSL modem there was something called PPPoE. The PPPoE could either be hosted on the modem, the router, or the computer. Since the DLink WBR-2310 has PPPoE built-in I decided to turn off the PPPoE on the modem and host it on the router. Low and behold, all my connection problems went away. I was still a little apprehensive that I had found the problem, so I started a large file transfer from my notebook to desktop over the wireless connection and had two other notebooks pulling large downloads from the internet. Not once did the connections drop. Things got slow but nothing ever stopped. So, for anyone having connection troubles and they are using DSL try my example. It may work for you, it may not. I took away a star because I had to "luck-up" on finding the solution. DLink does not provide support for my modem and AT&T does provide support for the router. Terrible situation to put a customer in.

Another flaky product from D-link, November 12, 2006
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
1. I've seen problems with both the WBR-2310 and WBR-1310 when updating firmware. At least the 2310 is less drastic - the firmware update web page just spins and spins and you can't tell if it's done, but if you click away from it and then click to the status page, then the update was complete.
(with the WBR-1310, the router would lock up and you'd have to do a hard reset to recover.)
2. I could not get Extended Range Mode to work with Hidden Wireless SSID. Whenever I selected both and saved the settings, it would return with the hidden SSID turned off. Since security is paramount, I had to forego using extended range mode. It's not fixed in the firmware 1.02.
I've had too many problems overall with the WBR series, the DWL-2100, and even some DI-524s of which I used to have a high opinion. I'm going over to Netgear and Linksys for now.

PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM!, April 7, 2007
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
This has to be by far one of the WORST products I have purchase in quite sometime. The installation was pretty straightforward I was up and running in few minutes and then I began using the router... My wireless and wired computer would drop several times through out the day which was extremely annoying especially due to the fact I was working from home. I would call the help support go through the same hacking of configurations with them time and time again but to no avail. I finally lost it when yesterday evening I spoke with another "help support" technician going through the same help script that every other DLink technician took me through. She refused to allow me to speak with a senior tech, instead she simply suggested I exchange it for another one. You gotta be kidding me? I took that poor excuse of a router back to the store and gladly received my money back.
Please do yourself a favour and do not waste your time or money on this product.

Works like a charm, August 27, 2006
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
I got this router after trying several pre-N and wireless G MIMO routers for my home. All of them had some problem or the other, including interference from cordless phones, but not this one!
Straight out of the box, it worked like a charm and still going....fingers crossed!

Constantly rebooting!, December 14, 2006
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
This router sucks. Do not buy it! I have had several DLinks before this model with no problems until now.
Currently it reboots about every 30 seconds. A call to India last week had me disable several features including the the gaming mode and internet ping. Wow. I'm glad I have to disable these features to make the thing work! Shouldn't it have been designed to work in the first place? Anyway. Disabling these features helped for about 3 hours and then it started rebooting itself again. I've tried shutting it down, reseting it, reloading firmware and nothing solves the problem. Seems as if others are having this problem too.
STAY AWAY!

Less Then One Star, January 23, 2009
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
This piece of c**p is by far the worst router I have ever had I bought it because it was cheap and on sale and it worked fine for the first three weeks and then promptly stopped allowing wireless connections no matter what setting or what computer I did the firmware update no change, called tech support was told that it's my problem and that I should buy a different brand if I want to complain about D-Link.... Stay away from this product get a Linksys instead.

Defective router, defective customer support, May 9, 2007
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
I purchased this router in January 2007, and by May 2007 it had stopped working. It began 'freezing up' on me after a couple of months, and frequently had to be reset by disconnecting & reconnecting the power cord. Even the hard-wired ports would not work when it would freeze up. I called the D-Link customer support line, and after an hour on the phone convincing them that the router just didn't work, they agreed it was defective. Their only solution is for me to mail the router back to them AT MY COST and wait for them to test it and analyze it there, determine whether they think it's truly defective, and wait for them to mail me a replacement. If they manage to get it working on their end, they can charge me a 10% restocking fee and send it back to me. I find it appalling that I have to pay to send back to the manufacturer a defective piece of merchandise. I work from home, and without my router, I'm out of the water. I need a replacement and I need it now. D-Link resolutely refuses to refund anyone their money for defective merchandise. I'll never buy anything made by D-Link ever again.

Work as it supposed to., August 30, 2007
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
I was hesitant about this product after reading the negative reviews, but I could not resist the price. I got the wireless router yesterday. Installed it following the manual that is in the CD coming with the router. At first, the wireless part was a bit jittery, but later, it seems to be OK. One of my USB wireless network adapter shows that it is connected at 56MB/s as adverstised. When it was connected to my last wireless router (D-Link DI-614+), the connection speed was only 11MB/s and the signal strength was weaker. I can the download speed is faster with the current WBR-2310 than DI-614+.

upgrade firmware first!!!!, February 25, 2007
This review is from: D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 108Mbps Router (Personal Computers)
my husband works in advertising, so i have an all-mac household. when it came time to buy a router, i was surprised that the famous mac store tekserve recommended a d-link over the airport. but they did, because it has more ports.
when you buy a router you really need to get the type that fits your situation -- you have to make sure you have enough range, enough ports, etc. the d-link fit the size of our house, our peripheral situation, our usage needs, etc.
if you want to do a lot of fancy stuff with windows gaming, you might want a different router. it's important to match the router to your lifestyle. don't just buy the cheapest router, really think about what features will equal your needs.
so i got the d-link wbr 2310, which was on sale. it was hard to set up (by apple standards) and i had to call tech support for my isp once and d-link 3 times; it just wouldn't talk to my hi-speed modem.
my isp has terrible support but the d-link support was decent, altho their voip connection to india was pretty hard to hear. but i never waited on hold for more than a couple of minutes.
the problem was that it needed not 1 but 2 firmware upgrades. once we figured that out, honestly, it took 10 minutes to set it up, and one reboot of the router, modem, and mac.
then it worked immediately and has been no problem for these past few days. so i'm very happy. lesson: upgrade firmware FIRST. and check for firmware upgrades often.
