Featuring easy access front Ethernet ports with bi-color LED indicators per port to quickly distinguish link status. The switch features IEEE 802.1p QoS, which organizes and prioritizes time-sensitive and important data for efficient delivery, allowing for smooth streaming media, VoIP calling, and online gaming. Think Green

Think Green

The DGS-108 is a plug-and-play networking switch that offers D-Link's Green Technology to save energy and reduce heat, which in turn extends product life without sacrificing performance or functionality. The switch supports IEEE 802.3az Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE), which detects when a connected computer is shut down or when there is no Ethernet traffic, at which time the switch will automatically power down the idle port, saving a substantial amount of power. In addition, the switch can also save energy by detecting the length of cable connected to a port and only using as much power as is necessary. Working together these innovative features drastically reduce power consumption and heat dissipation, resulting in extended life and substantial cost savings.

The DGS-108 Gigabit switch was designed with the environment in mind. It is compliant with Energy Star Level V, CEC, and MEPS regulations, which require the use of energy efficient power adapters. Built to comply with RoHS standards to minimize use of hazardous materials and is packaged with an EnergyStar Level V qualified power adapter all in a recyclable packaging making this product truly.

Cable Diagnostics Function

The D-Link Cable Diagnostics Function enables you to be instantly aware of cable conditions through the LED display on the front-panel. You can determine whether the pin connections of your cable connectors are correct, facilitating prompt network troubleshooting if required.

I liked this product so much, I bought a second one. These switches, like most, are plug-and-play. There's no configuration with them at all. Just plug in the power cable and your network cables and you're up and running almost instantly.

My initial concern was that these units might generate a significant amount of heat like some other brands do. This was a concern for me because I have a cable modem, wireless router, and one of these switches in a small closet - all generating heat. This unit isn't even warm to the touch, so heat build-up isn't an issue.

For the price, you can't beat these guys.

This switch has some great features, but when it comes down to it, it just works...and it works well. I was extremely surprised to see that after 4 days of use this switch was running cold to the touch (considering I run 3 devices that are never turned off and 4 others that are on 12 hrs a day this is great news). My old Cisco Small Business SD2005 would overheat often under load and it always ran very hot to the touch. Performance and lifespan are what usually take a hit when your switch runs hot, i don't feel that this will be a problem at all with this switch. It performs well and I get an average between 96MB/s - 115MB/s (that's megabytes) on large file transferes, sometimes faster speeds depending on what is being transferred to where. The cable diagnostic function is awesome, it has already helped me diagnose an issue with a cable. I've got two WHS 2011 boxes, an Open Solaris box, an iMac, PC, Minecraft Server, and a wireless access point connected to this bad boy. My WHS boxes maintain backups of all the systems I have on my network and host all my media. At any given time there is always traffic running through this switch. On top of great performance this little guy has a lifetime warranty as well. This has been one of the best unmanaged switched I've ever owned. I'm confident that this will continue to work well over the years. Even without a mail-in rebate this switch is a great value. I'll update if I experience any issues.

This switch runs cool and has been very reliable. I've had one for a couple of years, and I'm coming back to buy another one for other network extension in my home. I've used various consumer switches (and hubs, at first) since they first came out about 15 years ago, and this one is my favorite.

so far I love that switch. very easy to set up. after 6 weeks no problems at all. love the LED's so I can tell in a split second the connection speed and if that port is busy or not. and the energy saving option is great to.

For a simple use as mine its a great product without any confusing options. Lust plug in and go.

Would def. buy it again.

I use this network switch in a small network and have not had any issues with it. In the past, I've tried consumer-type switches with plastic cases. Aside from being flimsy and often falling or tipping just from the weight of the cables, they seem to crash often and be a bottleneck for throughput.

This switch offers gigabit speed at each of the 8 ports. The case feels solid as it is metal, and sits stably on a shelf. A few notes: this is a PnP switch and is unmanaged. While it does have QoS support, there's no way to see or change how traffic is prioritized. All of the notification LEDs are on the same side of the ports, which means if you place the device with the connections in the back, you can't see them. I actually preferred this since I don't want to see bright blinking LEDs.

The device runs fairly cool as it seems that the entire metal case is a heat sink. This switch is great for both prosumer and consumer use.

If your modem has a built-in router but only one Ethernet port, a switch is the answer. After plugging in a modem, computer, TV, and ATA VOIP phone adapter, - all came online, ready to go almost immediately. The internet connection "speedtested" just as fast (7mbps) with the switch vs plugged directly to the modem. The lights let one know if your device is connected at 1 gbps - or less, and if there is traffic. The case is cool to the touch. I could get by with a five port fast (100 mbps) switch, but it was at a great price. For this setup, it is either overkill or "future-proofing".

We needed more wired ports. This really doesn't do much but allow you more jacks to plug into. It did that for us. It is fine.

This switch works great. It is made of metal instead of the "cheap" plastic which I prefer. It is only like $10 more than the 5 port version and you get 3 extra ports. Better to have a few extra unused ports than not enough. I have a PS3 and a Roku 2 XS hard wired to it and they run w/o any hiccups. It is very light and it comes w/ screws so you can wall mount it if you would like that option. I do, but my wife put the kybosh on that so it sits behind my TV on the entertainment stand semi hidden. I also have a D-Link DGS 1016D 16 port switch which this switch is attached to also that has been running flawlessly for 2 years now. If you are thinking about getting this switch, make the plunge and go a head. I did and I am not disappointed.
