Great network camera in direct light,

This review is from: D-Link DCS-1100 Mydlink-enabled 10/100 Fixed IP Network Camera with Built-in Microphone (Electronics)
I was looking for a network camera to use as a baby monitor because I was interested in seeing what was going on with my son from work. For this purpose, the DCS-1100 works very well. The image quality is on par with higher-priced models and the built-in microphone and ability to record video are just added bonuses to this already feature-packed camera.
The one major annoyance that I have with this camera is the complete inability to capture any video in a dimly lit room. Even before sunset, in my son's room I could kind of make out that there was a crib there, but as far as what he was doing and whether or not he was still alive, anyone's guess was as good as mine. To summarize, if you are looking for a good quality network camera to capture video in a room with direct sunlight or lights on all of the time then this is your camera. If the room you are looking to put this camera in is the slightest bit dark, then please look elsewhere.

it works. i was a big purchaser of the DCS-5300. Quality (which is good) aside, I am sick of paying a price of $300.00 per camera. These DCS-1100 being 1/2 that price (not needing PTZ) are a good addition to a security system. Personally, I prefer a 16channel add-in board to a fast computer so I can get my camera & audio secured but when I work on client's offices and homes, these cameras are the quick and cheap way to put a fairly good system in place.
As far as the quality of the lens, focus, sound, it's just as good (or bad in your own opinion) as the other DLINK cameras. They're ok for lighted indoor areas. Never should it be used as a night vision or all-weather application.. The setup of a DLINK account was easy and I was up and running (after cat-5 and electric was supplied) in less than 5 minutes per camera. I DID NOT YET GET THE CELL PHONE to view the JAVA screen. I tried a Windows Mobile phone with a quick-player app that was supposed to be able to open the camera's link and I got nothing. I triple checked my settings on the Camera's Web Admin interface and then triple checked the settings on the phone and still - nothing. Oh well. I'll keep trying..... I've still to sit and try with a blackberry and IPhone4 this week. Other systems (AverDigi) work fine on Windows Mobile, Blackberry and IPhone.... (This is why I don't think it's me). The DViewCam software is typical DLINK and now supports the DCS-1100 so there you have that. Nothing new to talk about with the software. It's good, it does the job. What else to say, they're good, average cameras that puts an a fly on the wall for you. Personally, I wouldn't start with these cameras in my home ( I prefer AVER Digi 16ch PCIe add-in board). For work, I install these in offices where the customers want a $200.00 solution for a single camera or two or three and don't want to start with a $2,500.00 16 channel DVR to drop as an initial investment.

DCS1100 IPCAM Works Best With Internet Explorer,

I have been running two D-Link DCS-1100 wired IP cams for over three months now.
PROS: This is a reasonably priced, solid camera with a fairly broad range of functions. I have successfully used the FTP feature to upload images every few seconds to an archive server on the both the LAN and WAN sides of my cameras. In general the camera tends to keep working and not freeze up. The streaming video image is best viewed from the home page of the web based control interface. CONS: My biggest problem with the DCS-1100 is that the web based control interface cannot be used at all in Firefox and tends to freeze up in Safari. If you're like me and you don't use Internet Explorer for security reasons (especially all those Active-X goodies), you're likely to have difficulties configuring and managing this camera. Also the ability to insert streaming videos into a web page doesn't seem to work reliably or consistently for anything other than IE, and even then there are some issues. Finally the light range is adequate at best which means that in order to get any night vision at all, I am obliged to suffer a bit too much brightness during the day. One of my two IPCAMS replaced a USB webcam, but since I didn't have the option of continuing to run a USB webcam, my best guess is that, notwithstanding its faults, there is nothing better than the DCS-1100 for anything near to its price range.
