Faster Wireless Speeds, Wider Coverage

The Wireless N technology incorporated into the DHP-W306AV uses intelligent antenna technology to maximize the speed and range of your wireless signal to significantly outperform 802.11g devices3. The DHP-W306AV is also capable of delivering transfer rates up to 200 Mbps1 through the Powerline Network, so you can stream high definition video, enjoy lag-free gaming and faster access to large files within your network.

Easy Security Setup

The DHP-W306AV features a convenient Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button for simple, secure wireless network configuration with WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption keeping your network traffic safe and secure. It also features an encryption security button (ENY) that enables secure transmission between each HomePlug AV device.

Ideal for Bandwidth-Intensive Applications

The DHP-W306AV is capable of delivering high data transfer rates, both wired and wirelessly. This rapid transmission speed makes it ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications, enabling smooth HD video streaming, VoiP calls, and lag-free online gaming. In addition, it prioritizes Internet traffic, ensuring that multimedia applications do not experience glitches while web surfing and downloads are in progress. This device provides ample network bandwidth, enabling digital home consumers to tap into existing electrical wiring for high-quality multimedia streaming.

1. Maximum throughput based on theoretical transmission PHY rate. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of traffic and network overhead, may lower actual data throughput rate. Interference from devices that emit electrical noise, such as vacuum cleaners and hair dryers, may adversely affect the performance of this product. This product may interfere with devices such as lighting systems that have a dimmer switch, short wave radios, or other powerline devices that do not follow the HomePlug Powerline Alliance Standard.

2. Power outlets and electrical wiring must all be part of the same electrical system. Certain electrical conditions in your home, such as wiring conditions and configuration may effect the performance of this product. A minimum of two D-Link Powerline AV Network Adapters are required to create a network. Connecting this product to a power strip with a surge protector may adversely affect the performance of this product. For best results, plug adapter directly into a power outlet.

3. Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range. Wireless range and speed rates are D-Link RELATIVE performance measurements based on the wireless range and speed rates of a standard Wireless G product from D-Link. Maximum throughput based on D-Link's 802.11n devices.

OK, long story short, the product is really good. It does work well and has a pretty high build quality. Now I need to sing the song of the other reviewers, WOW DOES D-LINK NEED TO READ THEIR OWN MANUALS!!!!!! They S T I N K! I purchased the D-Link DHP-1320 Wireless-N PowerLine Router and the D-Link DHP-W306AV PowerLine AV Wireless N Extender to replace an aging home network. I need everyone reading this to understand that I am an IT professional, I do this stuff for a living. I have very little experience working with Power line adapters, but I figured the other reviewers had to have very little computer knowledge and this is why they had a hard time figuring it out.

Boy was I wrong!!! Let me give you a primer, The manuals for the DHP-1320 and the DHP-W306AV actually contradict each other! Clearly giving you two different sets of directions for establishing a connection between the two. One tells you same room, one tells you different rooms, one tells you 3 seconds to hold down the button, the other doesn't say, you get the picture?!? After searching far and wide I found the answers I needed and both the manuals are wrong.

While one manual tells you a specific period of time, going past 3 seconds is pretty easy. Couple this with the fact that they do not clearly tell you what the buttons look like and the DHP-1320 having no indicator that it's in pairing mode (and the US instructions not telling you the home link button should be flashing) will leave you scratching your head wondering what the heck you should actually do.

Have no fear, I found a PDF manual from the Australian D-link site with much clearer instructions. Apparently holding down the button for different lengths of time puts the router (or the adapter) into different pairing modes.

I replaced a Netgear WN2000RPT WiFi Range Extender with this D-Link DHP-W306AV Wireless N Extender. The Netgear unit had lots of problems with just locking up, and to resolve the problems we had to restart the device (unplug, wait a few seconds, plug back in and let it restart and establish a connection back to my wireless router. The router is also a Netgear unit as well). After a few months of that unreliable service, I was done with it, gave up and started looking for something that might work better. I had already installed 4 HomePlug Powerline AV network switches (Western Digital WD Livewire, they work great!), so I decided to try this D-Link unit. I've had it running in my home for 2 weeks now with NO problems with reliability at all. Once I got it sync'd with all the other PowerLine units, which is pretty easy, everything has worked great. The only thing I could complain about at all is that the wireless signal strength from this D-Link network is not quite a strong as the old Netgear system was, so the wireless range is not quite as good....but it WORKS, and I don't have to keep resetting it all the time! I'm pretty pleased with it.

As for the other negative reviews from people saying it did not work, obviously I'm not sure since I have not seen their setup, but I have to wonder if it might be one of three possible issues. 1st, this D-Link wireless extender DOES NOT connect to your wireless network like the Netgear system does. The D-Link REQUIRES that you have a HomePlug Powerline network already installed in your home, and it simply acts as a wireless Access Point, and communicates back to your router via your powerline network. It is not a wireless bridge like the Netgear and similar systems.

I bought this DHP-W306AV unit with the D-Link DHP-307AV Powerline AV Network Adapter and Starter Kit. I already have a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router and the need of these equipment is that I live in a big & good apartment and the wireless signal is not strong in some areas. So the idea was to use the electric wire to expand both wired and wireless to the entire apartment.
After several minutes reading the instructions, you may feel frustraded because it is not that simple. You have to use intuition and pay a lot of attention for details in the documentation to be succesful. I spent 45 minutes to install both and they really work very well. The network signal is strong and estable. I consider a good product and investment. I don't give a 5 star just because the poor instructions as definitely, it needs improvements to be more user friendly.

I have (had) a dead spot in my master bedroom. I purchased the DHP-W306AV in combination with the DHP-500AV to extend WIFI into that area. I now am getting between 41-71 Mbps signal in that area and can stream movies to my iPad without any problems. I did a test using speedtest.net and was very happy with the results. Based on this performance, I'm happy I made the purchase.

I had no problems with a default installation, which involved the following:
1. Plugging the DHP-500AV into the wall.
2. Connecting the Ethernet cable to it from the router.
3. Installing the DHP-500AV software on my PC. This lets you see the devices (DHP-500AV and DHP-W306AV in this case) connected to your internal network.
4. Plugging the DHP-W306AV into the wall plug in my bedroom and turning it on.

This resulted in my ability to connect to an unencrypted WIFI signal named dlink. I wanted to name the connection point and require a password, so I proceeded to spend about 2 hours working through the the rest of the set-up process.

Some suggestions. When you are ready to configure the DHP-W306AV and have connected it to a laptop via an Ethernet cable, don't use the CD. Use the [...] URL to connect to the unit and work your way through the set-up that way.

If you have problems getting the ENY buttons to work, then reset the devices. I had a lot more problems resetting the DHP-500AV, but once I did that after some earlier problems I was able to get it working.

Note to dlink, make the set-up easier and you will save yourself a lot of support issues and returned products. Better instructions and a video on the install CD's would be a start.

Rating. 5 stars for the result. I didn't subtract any stars for the set-up issues, but many who went through the process might.
