The D-Link Mobile Broadband Wireless Router (DIR-412) allows users to access worldwide mobile broadband*. Simply insert a compatible mobile broadband USB adapter into the DIR-412 to share your mobile broadband Internet connection through a secure, high-speed 802.11n wireless network. A 10/100 Ethernet WAN port allows you to access a DSL/Cable modem as the primary backup connection. Auto-failover ensures an uninterrupted connection by automatically connecting to your mobile broadband network whenever your Ethernet network goes down.

The DIR-412 ensures a secure Wi-Fi network through the use of WPA/WPA2 wireless encryption. Simply press the WPS button to quickly establish a secure connection to new devices. The DIR-412 also utilizes dual-active firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks and intrusions from across the Internet.
The Mobile Broadband Wireless Router can be installed quickly and easily almost anywhere. This router is great for situations where an impromptu wireless network must be set up, or wherever conventional network access is available. The DIR-412 can be installed on buses, trains, or boats, allowing passengers to check e-mail or chat online while commuting.
| Get Ready for the Future: IPV6 EquippedWith the growing number of Internet-enabled applications requiring IP addresses, the supply of IP addresses under the current Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) system has already been exhausted. The IPv6 protocol solves this network addressing exhaustion by creating more IP addresses, but migration from IPv4 to IPv6 is not necessarily automatic. No worries--this D-Link product is IPv6 Certified and ready for the future. |
* Requires third party mobile Internet access subscription. Check with your service provider for service coverage and applicable fees. D-Link does not guarantee compatibility with all EV-DO/CDMA/HSUPA/HSDPA/UTMS wireless networks or third party Internet PC adapters.

D-Link DIR-412 Mobile Wireless Router 3G, 11n-based, 150Mbps
I wanted to use my Apple WiFi iPad (non-3G model) while traveling but since most hotel rooms still require that you use a cat-5 RJ-45 connection for their free internet this was not going to be of much use since the iPad does not have a RJ-45 port. The iPad also does not have a USB port so I couldn't use my Verizon Novatel USB760 3G USB dongle modem that I use with my laptop for those hotels without free internet service. I looked at the wifi hotspot type products but most of those require a 1-2 year contact and can cost up to $40-60 per month for the data service which adds up fast over a 12 month period. This device solves the problem nicely. It can be attached to the hotel cat-5 cable or can accept several different USB 3G modems to create a local wifi hotspot that the iPad or iPod type devices can use as well as my laptop using it's wifi connection. Setup is simple and it worked right out of the box. If you want to set up security so that no one nearby can "share" your hotspot that can be done using the web browser interface common with all routers. Speed tests showed that the wireless speeds were comparable to those of my home wireless router when using my home broadband cable modem as input. Unfortunately my Verizon 3G signal strength where I live is very weak (1-2 bars) so I couldn't get much more than 1 Mbps download speed but I will test this again when I am in a location with decent signal strength. Overall I am very satisfied with this product and will be using it often.

This review is from: D-Link DIR-412 Mobile Wireless Router 3G, 11n-Based, 150Mbps (Personal Computers)
I bought this recently and ended up spending 1/2 a day getting it configured. I've configured my share of cisco, linksys and dlink routers over the years. This was just a little stubborn to accept the configuration. Once I got it working I got, at best, about 72 Mbps out of it on 3 different machines. I have a Wireless N Cisco router that reports a full 140 Mbps. Using the same machines with this Wireless N router each reports about 1/2 that connectivity rate. In use, it was obviously slower than the Cisco router.
I bought this for travel so that when I get stuck in a hotel or work location that only has wired connections I can setup a wireless network. For that, it will be ok. For the price, I was expecting more. I don't plan to use the 3G connectivity, so it may perform better a data card than straight wireless. It's ok. Not great.

Small, Mobile, and sleaky with the top USB direct connect,

Small, Mobile, and sleaky with the top USB direct connect. You can use both the 3G DATA, or LAN connect.
Only thing is dont expect the same coverage strength as a larger and standard Wifi router. Signal will drop 1-2 bar for same distance, when compared to standard large router. In Singapore sells for <50 USD, fyi.
