I'm on my second unit after the first one had range issues. When I replaced my old G-band router I expected to get better (or at least the same) range with the DIR-655. Unfortunately that was not the case, as my range was effectively cut in half. I made several calls to D-Link and they stepped me through some configuration changes, which did not help. After 3 calls, they told me to return it to Amazon and request a new one. Amazon's exchange policy was quick and painless. With the new router I have the same range as my old G-band model, but the speed is quite a bit better. After setting up the new one, I noticed that it was hardware version A4 as opposed to the first one, which was A2. With all that being said, if you get an A2 model and have issues, you may need to exchange to get a later hardware revision.

As far as the router goes, the setup was ridiculously easy and so far the performance and reliability have been fine. Plenty of features in the firmware to tweak. I haven't messed with the USB port yet, but other reviewers have some complaints on that one. Right now I'll call this a decent router for the price.

Tried 2 of these refurbished 'DIR-655' and they both didn't work properly. They must have some serious quality control issues at their refurbishing area!

I purchased this for my husband for Christmas. He opened it up on Christmas morning and tried it out and it didn't even work. There is no power to the router when he plugged it in - and it was all dirty when we got it! We tried several outlets and still couldn't even get it to turn on. Needless to say, we are sending it back for a full refund. I bought a useless piece of plastic junk! There goes a happy Christmas morning!

This is my first D-Link product. I am loving it. The setup was pretty much plug and play. Literally no need to log into the router to start using the internet if internet is already live. Obviously you will to config it but ... I've had many routers before and this was by far the easiest. I love the UI of the router and the way everything is setup. The range on this thing is ridiculous. The in-law's live four houses up the street from our house and they have two bars from my router and it connected at 150mbps through their Acer laptop. I was amazed. I never expected that. I am replacing a WRT310N Linksys router and the range on that thing sucked for me. I accidently uploaded the wrong firmware and well you can guess from there but I'm glad that I did now. This router is awesome. The gigabit works great for my PC and PS3. No complains so far. Great price too. If you need a wireless N router or a gigabit router or both then this in my opinion is the best router out there for the money. The only weird thing is the usb port on the router can only be used by one computer at a time if accessing a movie or something of the sort. And each PC or Mac that wants to use the usb port has to install a tiny app from D-Link. No biggie. I will never use this feature b/c I stream through my Xbox or PS3 but some people may.

Bought this router at end of 2011. Just start to use about a month ago to replace my older D-link Dir-655. My old D-link had a bit problem of dropping the wireless signal here and there. So I finally replace it with this D-Link DIR-655/RE Extreme-N Wireless router Router. The result is terrible. I had wireless signal drop off almost everyday, to the extend that I have to change back to my old modem.

I've been using my refurbished DIR-655 for a week now and haven't experience any problems. It came with the router, antennas, power adapter, Cat5 cable, and the install CD, but no printed guides or info. This router was revision A4. Signal strength is pretty good, maybe 75%, from across my entire house (120' max). Basic setup was very fast and simple. I've tried using the USB on the back of the router to attach a portable hard drive to my network, and while it does work, it takes a long time to open files (took about 30 seconds just to see the contents of a folder), and when I turn on and off computers in my house, the connection to the hard drive gets dropped. I'm not intending on using this feature much, but I wanted to see how it worked. Overall, I'm glad I bought this refurbished unit since its been working flawlessly and is inexpensive.

Wanted to like this router after reading many positive reviews (new models). Worked great for 2 days before CONSTANTLY dropping connection. Reset router numerous times to re-establish connection. The 3rd day it wouldn't even connect. Removed from the loop and tested my system with just my modem with absolutely no dropped connections just like before the hookup. Recommended to a friend to purchase this refurbished model router (after researching models, before fiasco) and after they removed from the package and plugged in, it wouldn't even power up. I have never had an issue with a refurbished product in the past and have purchased many more complex items than this. Sent back and purchased a Cisco which has worked flawlessly with the easiest setup in the world. Thank you Amazon for shipping free both ways, this transaction didn't cost me a dime. What is wrong with D-links refurb department? They have lost 2 customers with this one.

This is a great router. It has usb for network printing or storage drives. The best thing about this router is that it has very good range.
I am getting good signal strength from about 70 feet away in the back bedrooms. I'm very happy with this router.

its definitly a referb, but i didnt care cost, almost 1/2 as much as a new one. set up was simple, but i have been using newgear gaming routers for years. it's has a decent amount of tweaking options and the extra speed when transfering files at almost 150 vs the old just g at 54 is definitly a huge upgrade. the thing is that with a referbs things are hit and miss i wouldnt doiubt that some people have gotten some lemons and you ahve to watch that warrentee time as its pretty short. the good news is that if you get it up and runniong inside that warrentee they genreally last a long time. also i got revison b of the hardware and there are differences in the older firmwares and hardware and the newer ones, i never used the older hard ware and firmware so i am not fully versed on what has changed between the versions. This one is working just fine for me.

I usually have luck with refurb products but this was not one of those. If you notice the ratings it is either 5 or 1. That is because half the units shipped will not even power up. So what was refurbished? How do they know they fixed the issuer if they don;t even attempt a power up to see if it turns on?

The price is great and specs are wonderful... but 50/50 chance of it even getting past the "insert power cord" step of installation.
