Good for a basic switcher,

I have also encountered the freezing mouse problem (but only on the rare ocassion).
I usually only use one computer at a time (Both running XP Home) but have on occasion used both switching back and forth. To reduce the need for two monitors, mice and keyboards; I think it is money well spent. [Edit] One of my computers was an always powered Mother Board and it would always default to that computer and would have to switch back. This is not a problem with the switch and I did not dock points for that but I am sharing this for your information.

First, my main gripe. Like most any KVM you're likely to buy, it sometimes can cause 3 button wheel mice to freeze when switching between two active PCs. Just google KVM & mouse to see the joy...
But aside from this, the cabling is well-organized. I've used it to switch between multiple OS's such as Windows 98, XP, and Linux (even though it's not advertised as Linux compatible!). And seems to work well if your main concern is space savings and you don't need both PCs on at the same time.

It's cheap for a reason.,

The price is right on this KVM switch, but that's where it ends. If you switch back and forth between two running PCs and at least one is running WinXP, it won't find the mouse when you return to the WinXP machine. DLink support suggests using a non-scrollwheel mouse (which is a poor fix), but even then, with a standard two-button PS2 mouse, it still won't activate the mouse once you move away from the WinXP box and then return.
Look elsewhere for a KVM switch.

D-Link KVM,

I've had one of these for over a year. I'm using a 5 year old Gateway with 1 gig processor and a 3 year old Intel server with two 2.4 gig processors. Both are running Win XP Pro.
For the most part this switch works perfectly. Once in a great while the cursor has locked up, but it only seems to occur if switch between machines while one of them is booting up. I also have a D-Link wired router so that both machines can share my broadband internet connection. It has worked flawlessly from day one. If the KVM or router broke, I'd buy another from D-LInk in a heartbeat.

I purchased this switching unit after much investigation and research. There are many other more expensive units, which I have no doubt do the job, but as I was on a tight budget this unit checked out OK. I have been using this unit for one month on a windows 2000 platform with absolutely no problems. I do not use the hot keys because there is no need. The unit has a simple button on the front with a light to confirm switching. IT WORKS.
The only complaint I have is an aesthetic one regarding the mouse, keyboard and screen inputs, which are at the front. Would be better if all connections were at the back, but then again because the unit is so small it would not sit on a surface properly.

Works well but does not support my USB wireless mouse,

I just got this KVM (my first). The monitor quality is superb. I have a 21" CRT at 1600x1200 @ 85Hz with a high-end video card and I cannot notice the difference when it is plugged into the KVM vs. when it is plugged directly into my computer. This is good because some KVM's apparently have video distortion or noise. The keyboard and a standard mouse work well too.
My complaint, however, is that it does not support my Microsoft Wireless Optical Intellimouse Explorer (basically, a wireless USB mouse with no rollerball -- it's a laser -- and 5 buttons). Most KVMs apparently do not support the 5-button mouses; here, the KVM does not even recognize my mouse! I am using a USB>PS/2 converter so that it will plug into the KVM, but it does not even recognize the mouse at all. This is highly disappointing, as my mouse is not too exotic: wireless mouses, USB mouses, and USB wireless mouses, are very common -- this KVM "should" support this functionality. This is disappointing and it drops my score down to 4-stars. I also have complaint with the button in the front to switch -- it is small, the light indicating which system I am on is hard to see. One other complaint is that the cables hooking the computer to the KVM go out the back, and the cables going to the peripherals stick out the front. As such, it is not visually appealing and thus is better placed under my desk rather on the top of the desk. Overall, that drops the scope another star to 3-stars. To sum it up, the video quality is excellent, and standard keyboards and mice work well. Switching back and forth also is smooth and works great (no hangups, no lag). The problem is the layout of the KVM and the lack of support for my wireless mouse.

Device Works Fine, Buy with the Rebate,

I hooked this switch up to a Dell Dimension 2400 P4 and an old Gateway P3. I'm dual booting on both boxes between XP Pro & Server 2003 R2. I'm also using a usb mouse with the usb/ps2 adapter plugged into the switch. I've been using it for several months and it's been working fine. About once every 2 or 3 weeks, the Dell will boot up with the screen zoomed about twice the normal size, but a simple restart resolves it. I've had no problems at all with the Gateway. There's a 1-2 second lag between switching from one PC to the other, but that seems standard. I would have preferred it to be wall mountable, but it sits on top of the PC and the cables don't take up too much space. This switch works fine and I recommend it to anyone who needs a KVM switch.

I don't know why exactly, but when using this switch with my wide-screen monitor, the 1680 x 1050 resolution was not available. Also I noticed that the switch doesn't work if only one of my computers is on (I suspect this is because it draws power from only one side). Other than that, it works fine.
