The DSB-500 provides two type 'A' downstream ports for connecting USB peripherals and USB hubs. Its 32-bit PCI architecture is compliant with PCI version 2.1.
As a standard USB host controller, it directly interfaces between the USB bus and the operating system. The DSB-500 operates as the root USB hub to provide two downstream interfaces. It will accept USB data from any attached peripherals, hubs, or other devices in compliance with USB Specification version 1.1. Supporting both low-speed 1.5Mbps devices and high-speed 12 Mbps devices, each port of the DSB-500 creates a bridge between the attached USB peripheral or USB hub and the host computer.
The DSB-500 provides up to 500mA of current to any attached USB peripheral, device or USB Hub. This function allows any bus-powered devices to operate without the need of an external power adapter. The DSB-500 is packaged with all necessary manuals and is a true plug and play device to ensure an easy and quick installation.

Great Product, Great Price - No Documentation,
By "chrisjkracik" (Portsmouth, RI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: D-Link DSB-500 2-Port USB 1.1 PCI Adapter (Personal Computers)
After searching for an inexpensive USB upgrade card, I found the D-Link adapter here, for a terrific price. (...) I too am very handy around a PC, so I took the gamble.Well, my box also had no documentation! However, installation was simple; here are my tips. I inserted the card into an open PCI slot, and powered up the PC. The card was automatically detected and the install wizard was started. I needed the Win98 disk for the install to continue (looking for drivers), and once inserted, the install completed without issue. When I went to install a USB mouse, it was not detected! before any other troubleshooting, I left the mouse plugged in, and powered the PC down (not a restart, but a full power down). When the PC was turned back on, the mouse was immediately recognized and installed. I also installed an older USB scanner, and it too was recognized and installed perfectly. Again, this is a great product, hurting from no documentation.

Great Product, Poor Documentation,
By A Customer
This review is from: D-Link DSB-500 2-Port USB 1.1 PCI Adapter (Personal Computers)
Adding a USB port to my computer was easy with this D-Link product, but only because I'm good with computers and didn't need much hand-holding. Unfortunately, my box didn't include directions (they were somehow accidentally left out) and the D-Link web site wasn't much help either. But I was able to get customer service on the phone (it was NOT a toll-free call) and complete the installation quickly and without any other problems. Now that everything is installed, I am very pleased. The D-Link port worked just as it should. This was definitely a great way to add a USB port without spending a great deal of money. If the documentation had been provided, this product would have gotten five stars from me.
