This is the best bang for my buck that I have been able to find in a wireless router/switch combo, IF IT WORKED. A common problem with multi-faceted devices like this is that they start to fold up when you engage most or all of the services. In particular, this one will give you fits with DHCP if you use routing, switching and wireless IF you also enable intrusion prevention and detection. Overall, a better product than Netgear ProSafe and the tech support reps are very good since it's a business-class product. You're always better off with separate router, switch, and WAP, but if space or cost is a real issue then this may be an alternative for you. After getting 2 defective units, D-Link customer service sent me another REFURBISHED replacement unit. I requested a new unit but they wouldn't even give a response. I fully expect this unit to crash in short order, too. I'm done with D-Link...

I am a network technician, so I suggest you take my advice...

I was pulling 25mb - 35mb down and 3mb - 5mb up prior to installing this router. I wanted to replace my (working) router and two wireless access points with one unit. First, half my devices wouldn't connect to this router. The units that did connect would drop constantly. You CAN'T turn off the wireless, you can only hide the default SSID. I re-connected my original access points through this router, but now I am only able to pull 15mb down and 2mb up (on a really great day when the moon is full and the stars are in alignment).

My suggestion.. look elsewhere.

Very good router for home use, it can sustain the high session rates of bittorrent clients, but it has some flaws with firmware 2.01
- If you set dhcp ip reservations you break the LAN page. You must configure LAN by CLI.
- If you set your own DNS in the WAN and enable proxy DNS for the LAN the device works for a while, then it reverts to ISP provided DNS. If you want to use custom DNS configure them in the LAN settings and disable proxy DNS.
- Always double check your settings after reconfigure.
- If the 250N is slow or irresponsible disable IPS. Anyways IPS is very resource intensive and not suitable for high babndwith connections.

Other thoughts

The wireless N is rather slow so you better go for the 250 (without N) and save some bucks for a dedicated access point. Still you can have multiple wireless networks which is good in business setups, or for a guest network in a home..
It has DMZ capabilities in the port 8, it's not documented but if you enable DMZ port 8 (option port) will be assigned to the DMZ and isolated form the LAN.
It has full routing capabilities, you can create multiple network segments and use either port LAN or VLAN trunking.
logs and statistics are useless.

This has been a solid device for several months. One is serving ~10 PCs, a HD camera server, 3 Printers, and WAP2/ WiFi serving a few employee cell phones and a laptop in back-office. All networked devices stay connected with high speed. No drama. I like the USB configuration backup option, and the 8 physical data ports with status lights. We are using the latest Firmware 1.09B32_WW.

Router is much faster than our old Cicso. The only oddity is that the power plug is on the back, and the other plugs are on the front. I suppose this is more efficient from a surface-area perspective, but it's kind of annoying to have cables running *everywhere*. Regardless, great router.
