Fast, but prone to fail,

This review is from: D-Link DSS-16+ Desktop 16-Port Switch (Personal Computers)
I picked up a DSS 16+ switch and it definitely improved our network of 14 computers. We were using the two uplinks. I purchased the system in January and it has a 3 year warranty.Yesterday, it died completely. We lost all our ports. You cannot get through D-Link tech support by phone, and e-mail has been slow to get an RMA. In retrospect, I think the slightly more expensive Link-Sys switches may be manufactured with better quality control. Pete

I Highly Recommend D-Link's DSS-16+ Switch.,

I purchased the DSS-16+ to replace 3 hubs I was using for my small office network. After connecting the switch, I couldn't believe how fast my network operated. I gained dedicated bandwith per port and no longer had to share my bandwith with other users. The DSS-16+ has full-duplexing to provide maximum speeds for 10/100 network cards. D-Link provides lifetime warranty so I know I can't go wrong. I question the problems the other guy experienced because this switch alleviated all of my network traffic and gave me the fast performance I seeked. I would definitely recommend the DSS-16+ to my family and friends.

Once Again D-Link Delivers,
By A Customer
This review is from: D-Link DSS-16+ Desktop 16-Port Switch (Personal Computers)
I previously owned 2 D-Link hubs and they worked great and are still in good shape, but they are Hubs. That is why I bought this 16 port Switch. And now my Small Office Network is much faster. (As would any network that traded in a hub for a switch.)I have owned this for 3 months now and everything still works perfect. I have never traced a problem in my network down to this switch. Ever since we purchased it nobody in the office has complained about the speed being to slow. I have and will recommend this product to any and everyone who could use this or other D-Link switches.

Poor product / technical support is even worse,

If you are looking for a reliable, quality switch, look elsewhere. The first switch we received was DOA. Tech support turn around was more than a week, and they ship UPS ground. As a result, we had to rely on an old hub for over two weeks! The new switch worked well, for about two weeks. Then it too failed. If you need a reliable workgroup switch, look somewhere else. We gave up and replaced ours with a Bay Networks Netgear FS516 switch for about the same money and we can rest easy with good support. So far it hasn't broken either.

This is a very simple device. Just plug it in, connect the ethernet cables and you are in business. No software, no problem

Was looking for something to replace other brands that have been having problems.
D-Link is a known name that has been through some rough waters. I think their new line of products might make them a player. Easy to install, decent value, and performs beautifully (installed 3 weeks ago)... This is a recommended item.

I bought a pair of these switches for my younger brother so he could host a LAN party. They were hooked up to a D-Link DGL-4500 gigabit router; 2 dedicated servers we had were hooked up to a D-Link DGS-2208 gigabit switch off the router (with a few Xboxes), and all of the guests computers were hooked up to these 16 port switches.
My brother is not a technical person at all, and I had no interest in playing tech support for him, so I picked this switch, hoping that it would be relatively hassle free. It was. Speeds were great, and nobody complained of lag all night. There was no configuration necessary on either the router or switch; once we had everything plugged in and connected, it all worked flawlessly. If you're looking for a great device, I'd actually suggest the gigabit version of this model. If you're looking for a great device at a great value however, this is an excellent choice. NOTE - I've noticed a few comments suggesting that this is a gigabit device (10/100/1000) - it is NOT; this only does standard 10/100 ethernet.

I purchased this unit 3 years ago and it worked fairly well until it completey died. I have a friend who had the exact same switch for the same amount of time and his died within a month of mine. Dont plan on getting more than 3 years use out of this switch.

Ports failing after a few years,

We've had this for about 3 and a half years now and 5 of the ports have gone bad. Because of that, the switch itself is slow and intermittent. We'll be replacing it immediately, but not w/another D-Link product for sure.

Very happy with product. Easy to set up. Bought two and bought a RJ45 crossover adaptor for $3 off Ebay to link the two switches together (which worked perfectly). The only problem is that Amazon has its photos wrong. The product they ship has power input (110v ac) on REAR, and all port lights and RJ45 outputs on FRONT. Initially i was going to send the switches back as i wanted power and outputs on rear with just lights visible on front as this would have given a neater finish .... but decided just to deal with them as this is the newer designed version from D-link. Hopefully Amazon will update their old photos soon !!!
