Simple to setup, faced range problems though,
This review is from: D-Link DWL-923 Wireless Network Kit, 802.11g, 54Mbps, Includes DI-524 & DWL-G630 (Personal Computers)
I bought this product after a lot of looking around on Internet for comparable products. What I like about this combination is the speed (54Mbps is actually what I get on the combo), ease of setup (the wizard is simple to use, never had to call DLink for technical assistance) and the fact that I was able to set it up and use it within an hour of opening the box.
What i do not like about the combo is the fact that it is not really compatible with non-dlink cards .. my other laptop never reaches the 54 Mbps mark in the same distance band as the laptop with the Dlink card, and the reception flaps causing connection to be dropped once a day or so. Having said that, i can also say that I faced the same issues with my older (and slower) Netgear router ... and that comparably this is easier to setup. I have never had to reset the DLInk router ever ... (and have certainly done that on the older Netgear every once in a while)... and I would recommend this product to everyone looking to purchase a wireless router out there.

I am not a networking pro, but just wanted to use Wireless as I got my office laptop in addition to my personal laptop at home, as I needed an IP splitter anyway. This device, being a combo and at a decent price immeidately caught my attention and I bought it inspite of my friedns' warnings against D-link.
The setup of the base unit was easy but as soon as I installed the card, I figured that something went wrong. After a 2 hours discussion with cust-support, I was told that I would have to use Static IP addresses on both PCs to connect to internet, as the DNS server of the Base unit had some issues. That is fine as long as my both pcs are used at home, but I have to change my network setting everytime (to autodetect an IP address) whenever I have to take my PC out or if someone bring another device to my home. I happened to change my service provider and discovered that the TCP/IP setting of my main PC had corrupted and needed reinstallation. Other than that, its been working fine since last 2-3 months. Not a single dropped connection. It works at a consistent high speed. I would say its a good value for money if, unlike me, you know how to use it.

Was a decent buy with $60 in mail in rebates from bestbuy's bf sales but I noticed that the router would keep dropping and restoring the connections, and this was a direct wired connection on my desktop.
Tried to reset it with the paperclip and start over, no change. After poking around the web, I found that if I restored the device, then reverted to the 1.03 firmware, then updated to the newest 1.05 firmware, that has fixed it for now. As for setup on the laptop, make sure you uncheck let Windows manage the wireless connection and uses the Airlink software. Atleast in my area anyway. With NetStumbler I found 6 other various hotpoints and Windows would always pick another connection besides mine, although that could be good for Wardriving.

The card is good but the router is of bad quality. In daily use I have to restart the router irregularly to make it work.
Moreover, the rebate didn't go through and I had to resubmit the same supporting documents to request rebate check.

Pros: Installation was easy, no jamming, always recovers itself after energy blackouts. Cons: Poor signal across concrete homes. In such conditions you may need to get a repeter.

Had it out of the box and working in about half an hour. I did hit one little snag that required a call to the D-Link tech support center, and I was DELIGHTED to hear an American voice... no off-shore outsourcing for these guys! With their help I had the problem quickly solved.
I'm not overly thrilled with the signal strength, but at least I can connect from anywhere in the house. I've heard other people voice the same complaint. NOTE: With this and any other wireless router, make sure you ENCRYPT YOUR CONNECTION. If not, anyone can drive by your house and login to your network. Enjoy!

well i bought this kit today. how ever the kit that i bought today uses different firmware then the 1.1 or the 1.3 that most of the reviews mention. the one kit i have has a revised firmware packers of 300 or 301 firmware, it came with the 300 packet installed and my connections kept dropping, but after upgrading to the newer 301 firmware, it hasnt droped yet and both pc's and my laptop are connected with out any issues.
but i can tell you this, if it starts to act up i will go with a different brand, since i havent heard much good about d-link. but for 20 bucks after rebate at bb you cant go wrong.

Difficult to install on Windows 98 SE,

I bought this to use with an old laptop running Windows 98 Second Edition. I didn't check the box first - it only claims to work with Windows XP/2000/Me - but the documentation inside says it works with Windows 98 SE as well. It can be made to work with Windows 98 SE, but only with difficulty - after I ran the automatic install routine, I got an error message about a missing file, IPHLPAPI.DLL. I had to google the error message and find a newer version of IPHLPAPI.DLL to replace the one that was already present in my system folder. Once I did that, the wireless card worked. By the way, I tested it for interference by using my 2.4 Ghz cordless phone to make a call right next to it and had no problem.

I've had a HORRIBLE experience with the wireless card in this networking kit--all because my laptop runs on Win 98 SE! Although it claims to work with Windows 98 SE, the software has a flaw that can't find a .dll file to make the card work. I've spent hours trying to come up with a fix and I finally contacted DLink for tech help. (...) Before buying this product, read all about the problem this product has with Win 98 and decide if you really want the headache. I solved my problem by purchasing another card that said it worked with Win 98 and actually did. I had it running at a Dell store in minutes. Disregard what the box says. Only use if you run Win 2000 or higher! It seems to work really well with XP.
