3.0 out of 5 stars worked but did not last long
This item actually works OK. WPA-PSK worked OK for me (with DI-624 router). The problem lies in the construction of this adapter. Mine broken after a few month of use. If you use it often on your laptop, the wires within the adapter can snap fairly quickly. I had to have mine soldered back on, but it is now broken again. I recommend that you either get a different one, or...

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, June 19, 2005
This review is from: D-Link DWL-G122 Compact Wireless USB Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers)
I finally gave up on trying to get my Linksys PCI card to work with my ShuttlePC. There is some bizzare conflict somewhere...

As the other reviewers had indicated, this unit works great. Install the driver and then plug in the gadget. The Dlink icon in the system tray gives you status info on the gadget. Clicking on the icon takes you directly to the standard WinXP networking interface, not a proprietary interface that seems to often conflict with what XP is telling you (ie with Linksys products).

The unit also comes with a USB extension adapter/cable in case it is inconvenient to plug the unit directly into your computer's USB port. It is also useful as a means to extend the range of the unit by keeping it away from the metal chassis of your computer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems reliable, but poor driver support online, January 17, 2006
This review is from: D-Link DWL-G122 Compact Wireless USB Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers)
I've been using this adapter for a while now after initial trouble with what seems to be an unreliable USB port on the front of my Dell desktop. The cable extension is fantastic b/c different networks require different placement and it takes trial and error to find a new optimum placement for the adapter every time a wireless network disappears and I've to rely on a new one.

HOWEVER, the driver software provided online DOES NOT WORK. I've tried to follow and ignore its directions with equal failure for too many times. The only way to get it recognized by WinXP is to use the CD. I've the Rev. A2 version of the adapter and I don't know which rev you'll get from Amazon, but just remember to keep a copy of the driver CD somewhere.

FYI, I bought mine from Fry's for about FIVE bucks after rebates...

4.0 out of 5 stars Does not necessarily work on a mac, February 27, 2006
This review is from: D-Link DWL-G122 Compact Wireless USB Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers)
I bought this because the first reviewer said it 'works great on a mac'. I read the macosxhint that they mentioned and then went ahead and bought it.
It turns out you need specifically a revision B DWL-G122, which uses the ralink chipset. I bought a rev. A2 version, and revisions A1 and A2 both use an Intersil Prism chipset, which as far as I've been able to find, is NOT compatible with a mac.
As disappointing as this is, it does work on my PC so I'll keep it and look for an airport card for my mac.
Do not buy the A1 or A2 version of this product if you want it to work with your mac!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Compact Wireless Adapter, March 24, 2005

This works great in my laptop.
I installed the drivers, rebooted, and plugged this bad boy in and BAM! I was able to get onto my wireless network from anywhere in my home right after entering in my security key into the configuration software. Setup was a breeze.

Now when I want my old IBM laptop to go wireless I just whip this puppy out and plug it into my USB port. My laptop already knows about it so it just pops right up and asks which wireless network I want to connect to.

This thing must have good range because not only do I get enough signal all throughout my home I can also see my neighbors wireless network. It's nice to know that I can go further than my house. I haven't actually been outside to test the limits of the range, but why would I, it's cold out there. ;)

This wireless adapter seems to work great everytime I use it. very reliable, not very expensive, and not hard to use. Pick one up if you are looking for a USB wireless adapter. Make sure you have USB 2.0 so you can get the best speeds.

1.0 out of 5 stars CHEAP and cheaply made!, October 31, 2006
This review is from: D-Link DWL-G122 Compact Wireless USB Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers)
Mine worked fine for about a month before it stopped working. dealing with D-Link isn't a pleasure either.
Don't get it. Get something better. Spend a little more, avoid the hassles.

Easy set up and great connection. Do keep in mind that your speed is greatly diminished (about 40% slower) if you don't have USB 2.0. Otherwise, it's a great, stable device. Also, D-Link has a website with excellent support documentation. And if that's not enough, they also offer free tech support over the phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mac user - it really does work..., March 31, 2007

I purchased the D-Link AirPlus G Wireless USB adapter - model DWL-G122
I use an I-mac powerPC G4. OSX 10.4.9 - My computer is almost 4 years old.
I tried to install the software provided by D-Link, but there is nothing for the mac on the install disk. I called D-Link Tech Support and they told me the USB Adapter I purchased was not compatable with my computer. After researching the reviews on here, I was able to get the necessary drivers that DOES allow this product to work with my computer. This product works perfectly with my computer... no thanks to D-Link tech support!

Finally got this thing working after 3 hours of fighting it. Two tips:

* try a different USB port. I wasn't getting the "New Hardware Found" like the manual said, until I tried a different port

* try using the Windows configuration utility instead of the D-Link configuration utility. It just works. I couldn't get it to connect to my WPA-PSK router otherwise. So keep the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox checked.

Only 3 stars because it wasn't plug-and-play - it was plug-and-fight-for-3-hours-then-play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with the Mac Mini & Jaguar..., September 16, 2005

This USB dongle does work with the Mac Mini and Jaguar. BUT: you must get the dongle that uses firmware version 2.02, not 1.02. The older version uses a Prism chipset, which doesn't work. The newer version uses a Ralink chipset which does work.

When you turn on your mac you have to unplug this and then plug it in to get the mac to recognize it. But that's really trivial. A great little product for Mac peeps. I haven't tried it with Tiger yet.
