5.0 out of 5 stars Have over 7 sets in use
This is an Ideal POE adapter I have about 7 of these powering up my wireless APs in my network It is rock solid and reliable. I have 3 in outdoor locations one for over 2 years now and others in home and barn locations with no problems. Really Like these they are problem solvers. My longest link is a dwl-2100ap at the end of a 200 foot cat 5e run through the woods inside...

3.0 out of 5 stars Compatiblity Alert
This product is not 802.3af PoE compliant. That means you must use the included terminal unit with the included base unit. If you get a PoE switch later on it will not work with the terminal unit. Why they did it that way, heaven knows. Given that, you might as well hack splitters on both ends yourself and save some money. No electronics would be involved just wiring...

Why they did it that way, heaven knows. Given that, you might as well hack splitters on both ends yourself and save some money. No electronics would be involved just wiring in the AC adapter at the base end and wiring in the connector at the terminal end using the unused cat5 pair. With a long cable run the device might not work but you've got nothing to lose.

I am using this to power a network camera out in the front of my house. It makes it possible to run just one cable to the unit. No power near the item you want to power, no problem. just make sure the item runs on either 5v or 12v DC..

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy and fast way to reduce wire clutter, May 2, 2009

Installation went without a hitch, excellent directions. My reason for 4 stars is that the power adapter cord to the device that you are powering thru this system only has one size of "barrel plug", about 3mm. Fortunately it fit my Netgear WGR614 wireless G router, but some newer routers (such as the popular D-link DIR-855) have a larger power port, and no adapter is included in this kit. Also make sure that your device to be powered thru this adapter is either 5V DC (2.5A) or 12V DC (1A), which are the only two outputs that can be selected. D-link also cautions that the device must be "compliant with IEEE 802.3af standard", meaning that the data is transmitter through the 1,2,3,6 wires of the ethernet cable and power through 4,5,7,8 wires (this is the most common wiring configuration).

4.0 out of 5 stars works fine, but runs HOT and power cable tip is wrong size, April 2, 2010

This review is from: D-Link DWL-P200 Power Over Ethernet Adapter (Personal Computers)

This item will provide power + ethernet over a single Cat5 cable, from a standard
non-POE switch to a non-POE device.

If you have a POE switch and you want to run a single cable to a non-POE device,
then you would use D-Link DWL-P50 instead.

I bought 2 of these so I can use a UPS battery backup in a back closet to provide
power to a cable modem and Axis internet camera in my living room, so in the event
of a power failure, the cable modem and internet camera will still operate.

There is a switch on the remote unit so you can select either 5V or 12V to power
your device. D-Link supplies a short (2-foot) power cable, but the plug on this
cable would not fit either my Motorola cable modem or Axis internet camera.

So I had to cut the cable and solder on a different plug and use some heat
shrink tubing to finish the job.

D-Link should have provided several different sized plug tips, such
as this item:

Power Line 0900-77A 1300-mA AC Adapter with USB Charging Port

After installation, my cable modem and internet camera are both working fine,
but the D-Link remote unit box gets hot to the touch, which is disturbing.

My cable modem uses only 9-watts of power, which is less than what the D-Link
DWL-P200 is capable of supplying (12-watts).

So overall I'm satisfied, though it was a hassle having to make two custom
power cables, and I'm concerned about the lifespan of this unit due to the
high heat.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work for Xbox 360, January 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: D-Link DWL-P200 Power Over Ethernet Adapter (Personal Computers)
This would not link, and judging by other reviews we are not the only ones with this problem. Recommended to us for Xbox 360 but we ended up buying Trendnet TPL202E. It cost more to return this than it was worth. Maybe the fact that it was poorly packed rendered it nonfunctioning? Our replacement item from Trendnet worked perfectly. I would recommend reading Newegg reviews on this D-Link product before buying, wish I had known about the problems with the Dlink before we bought it. Sometimes a Gamestop geek is NOT the person to ask for hardware recommendations!

5.0 out of 5 stars Convenient solution to laying power cables everywhere, October 24, 2008
By
This review is from: D-Link DWL-P200 Power Over Ethernet Adapter (Personal Computers)
It does what it says. Power over ethernet. Everything you need is provided in the package. It's also able to switch between 12V and 5V which is very helpful.
This tool is especially useful if you want to set up a network security camera and not want to lay 2 wires ( power and ethernet ) all over the place.

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Gigabit!, September 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: D-Link DWL-P200 Power Over Ethernet Adapter (Personal Computers)
I reviewed te tech specs on this item carefully before buying. The technical descriptions do not state any bandwidth limitations, only that CAT5 wiring is supported. Upon installation, and reviewing the fine print on the last page of the manual, it turns out that this device does in fact not support 1000Mbps connections.
It will work fine for normal use around the house, but if you are looking specifically for high-speed networking devices, don't get this one. Calling D-Link customer service was a load full of wasted time. The representatives have no technical knowledge, don't the the device from another, and generally give incorrect information. Even speaking with a supervisor was highly disappointing. As a result, I will stay clear from D-Link going forward.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not 802.3af PoE compliant, April 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: D-Link DWL-P200 Power Over Ethernet Adapter (Personal Computers)
It is not readily apparent when reading the product description but this product is NOT 802.3af PoE compliant. This will cause compatibility problems with some POE cameras such as the Panasonic line of products. The only thing this product is guaranteed to work with is Dlink products. For me, having separate transmit & receive modules defeats the purpose of having POE device. The DC out cable will only work with a limited number of products. Recommend you look elsewhere if you want to power a non-Dlink camera or POE device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product for Remote Reset of Routers, May 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: D-Link DWL-P200 Power Over Ethernet Adapter (Personal Computers)
Even when you can't get power to a remote router, you can take advantage of your ethernet line to operate the unit and it provides the means to easily reset the unit by toggling the power remotely. This solution is perfect for an application where power is not available in a ceiling or in the rafters for running a wireless access point or router.
