Works but,
This review is from: D-Link DXN-221 MoCa Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit (Personal Computers)
Works as I wanted. Plug and play on coax that carries TV and cable modem.
What doesn't work is their configuration utility software for windows. Fortunately I didn't need it- just plug and play. Tech support at level 1 and then level 2 was incredibly ignorant; no, make that totally unprepared and both had bad ESL issues. Level 3 wants to call. Hopefully I'll never need the utility.

Timely received, easily installed, connected immediately, basically plug-and-play. Couldn't ask for it to be better. Why did it take so long to have this product available? Especially good for larger homes.

I just spent a day tearing my hair out trying to get these devices to work. I had my coax from the wall into a 2-way splitter and then onto a DXN-220 on one branch and my cable modem on the other. Every time I connected in the DXN-220, or switched from config to moca on the DXN-220, the cable modem would drop out and my internet connection was lost.
[...] When I connected the coax from the wall to the DXN-220's coax in/out and then the TV out from the DXN-220 to the cable modem, they work just fine. I did not need the suggested Channel Vision C-0314 1 In 4 Out Amplified Splitter. D-link support were no help and I was passed from pillar to post through their system with many disconnections. I was on the phone for literally hours hanging on waiting for another rep asking the same questions. I also could not get the configuration utility to work until I added the utility program to my anti-virus (Trend) firewall allowable programs list. However, it wasn't any help since there's not much to configure! Anyway, I was just about to send it back for a refund when I found the post mentioned above, so thanks to that guy whoever he is. Can I recommend these, only if you're prepared to work at the installation. There are others by Netgear and Gifen, maybe their instructions are clearer or their support more helpful, I can't say. Once working they are better than wireless and ethernet over powerline.

I have a 50s rambler. Comcast cable comes in at one end of the house(upstairs, north end) and that's where my cable modem, office and home Wi-Fi router live. I have entertainment centers (EC) upstairs (north end) and downstairs (south end). Wi-fi doesn't make it to the downstairs EC. The house is not wired for ethernet. Powerline ethernet is worse than wi-fi. I was frustrated. Then i found MoCa and the dlink MoCa dlink adapter kit. I bought it (got the last one off a dust covered shelf at my local Microcenter), brought it home, hooked it up (one end in the office and the other at the downstair EC), hooked up a switch to the downstairs unit and IT WORKED! No initial set up, no tweaking settings...it just worked. I then bought a second kit from amazon to hook up the upstairs EC, WAY faster and more stable (rock solid) than WiFi.They caution that signal boosters on the cable may interfere, i have a signal booster, it doesn't. It just works!

Utility software does not work and tech support is beyond useless,
This review is from: D-Link DXN-221 MoCa Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit (Personal Computers)
I purchased a DXN-220 and it arrived with a defective utitlity CD, which is needed to set the configuration for your network, unless you have no network security.
After going to the web site and getting a download that would not run, I contacted tech support, waited for 45 minutes on hold before reaching a person. After explaining the above, she told me I needed to go to the D-link web site, so I tried reaching her again. No comprehension still and still not amenable to emailing me the download, so I walked through the download process with her to see if the outcome would be different. It wasn't, so I again asked for the download to be emailed. Rather than comply, she inquired "if I can download it onto my computer, why can't you download it on yours" apparently missing the point that SHE is tech support. When I pointed that out to her, she insisted on asking the same why question, prompting me to ask for her supervisor. When the supervisor took the call, I reiterated the above and she apologized for the inconvenience, adding in regards to emailing me the download, "D-link cannot send out emails"........seriously? I am packing this up to return it. I would be very skeptical of the review that gave it 5 stars and said easy plug and play......I would say it came from D-lnk but apparently, they don't do email! |
