I hit a few web sites, rapidly, and then this router would fail to connect to a remote site -- to the internet -- for minutes. Not sure if it is related to the dropped packets that I saw in the logs and others have reported. I didn't spend too much time trying to reconfigure or determine the root cause -- after 30 minutes tinkering with the web-based config, and seeing no improvement, I sent it back.

After half a dozen or so routers, this was by far the worst experience I've had.

I bought this router to be able to add wired connections to my Apple Airport Express. It worked using bridge mode but it is far from ideal. It occasionally will drop all connections if there is a lot of data going through it. I think this is probably a firmware issue since it never happened with my airport express alone. Also the data rate seems to have dropped - I used to get 30Mbps when my computer was connected via ethernet to my cable modem directly, and around 25Mbps when using my Airport Express alone, but now it has dropped to around 9-10Mbps. It's still enough for my needs but I really expected better from D-link. After an online search it appears that many people with this router are having the same issues, so I don't think it's just because this one is refurbished. I picked this up for $15 so I don't feel too bad about it but in retrospect I would probably have gone for a different router. Not recommended.

here's what works consistently and concurrently for me: web browsing, aim, xmpp (gchat), ssh... in fact, anything that does not require port forwarding. as for what causes problems: applications that require port forwarding. these are things like bittorrent and certain online games. the application that needs port forwarding actually works fine, but while that application is running, things like web browsing become spotty. pages take a long time to load or timeout completely.

It works okay,
but every so often (on average once per few hours for me, though it may be based on what we're doing internet-wise),
it will simply freeze and pretty much cut off our internet for like 5-10 minutes (not just dns and web, but *everything*!, even ICMP pings!)
(a few packets sometimes get through, but it's like 95% packet loss >< )
._.

Which is extremely important for it not to do for us, since we host a web server from behind the router (and it's so offline for so long that people's browsers time out and it's considered offline while the router glitches!!)
Though that prolly isn't as serious for most peoples

By the way, the one we have is specificallies,
Model: D-Link EBR-2310/RE
H/W Ver: B1
F/W: Ver: 2.01

I have used this model router in the past with no major issues. It's a little early to decide if buying a refurbished unit was wise. One thing I have noticed, according to the label on the box, the refurbished unit only has a thirty day warranty. I don't see that anywhere in Amazon's online description. I probably would have purchased it anyway but find myself feeling a little annoyed this limitation was not disclosed prior to purchase.

It's a terrible router. A single windows 7 PC with a simple web page can bring it to its knees. My first one is somewhere in a landfill.

But, when I needed a very simple minded router to connect my Raspberry Pi to a laptop - I bought another. The Pi has no problem handshaking with it. The install software for the PC failed - but I simply configured it without the installation software. Works fine.

A ripoff to me. It says it is a router but actually is just a cheap switch. A real router would let you assign different IP addresses to every port. You can get the same functionality form any wireless router with ports on the back. This is not a router in the classic sense just a switch.

THIS ROUTER CAME AS ADVERTISED AND WAS EASY TO INSTALL SO THAT OUR 2 COMPUTER SYSTEMS WERE ABLE TO BE ON LINE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING IT IN THE MAIL.
