I was looking for a small managed switch, so I can force port modes/speeds when needed, do port mirroring to debug issues on other devices, etc, so I got this since it was a good deal at $63.99 back in 2012 when I purchased it.
This switch is very well constructed, with full metal housing, and doesn't even get warm during operation. The wall wart power supply is small, and doesn't get warm either, which is great.
The switch works right out of the box, however to manage it you need to have your computer in the 10.0.0.0/8 subnet at least momentarily, to talk the the switch at its factory default 10.90.90.90 address and make any changes. (Tip for linux users: something like "ifconfig eth0:2 10.90.90.2 netmask 255.0.0.0" immediately allows your computer to talk to the switch without interrupting your regular connectivity at all.)

The switch readily recognizes FE vs gigabit-ethernet devices plugged into it, and depending on the speed of the device, either the amber or the green LED on the switch port lights up respectively, giving you instant visual confirmation of what the speed is.
The web interface to manage the switch is nice, also reporting speed/duplex for each port, cable faults, and allows you to setup port-based or 802.1q VLAN's, IGMP snooping to reduce broadcast traffic, port mirroring, SNMP traps, report of learned mac addresses, loop detection, QoS, port trunking (static link aggregation only, not LACP), storm & bandwidth control, backup & restore of configuration, etc. There is no CLI interface though, only plain http (no https either).

As smart switches go this is an idiot savant.

Web interface? Check.

Command Line Interface? Not so much.

Port based VLAN? Check.

802.11.Q Tagged VLAN? Check

Both at the same time? Not so much.

Most of the other smart switch features seem to be there as well.

So, for moderately high end home or small business, Excellent!

For medium or larger business with complex environments? Not so much.

Works, its a semi-managed (I think I made that word up) switch. Make sure you turn on loop back detection (comes with it off) for all ports except the uplink ports, if any. Runs cool. Have three in service, no issues.

Replaced old switch with this one, and what a speed difference!! We have 8 computers, 3 printers, phone systems and surveillance system hooked up to this. The computers are different versions of Windows (XP, 7), and connected without any problems.
The buyer should have some knowledge of switches and routers, as the included instructions are some what limited.

First of all, this is the DGS-1100-24 Easysmart 24 port gigabit switch. It was released on March 19, 2011, so it's newer than some of the other well-rated switches sold on Amazon.

Similarly to the DGS-1024D switch, this switch is also fanless, quiet and energy efficient.

This switch provides an easy to use web interface to manage advanced features. Features include VLANs, link aggregation, cable diagnostics, IGMP snooping, VLAN traffic segregation, port mirroring, security, etc.

I do a lot of info sec work and the 5 port version of this device offers port mirroring at a very low price which is very handy for capturing network traffic for analysis, deploying an intrusion detection system on networks that don't have the capability, or where its just too much of a hassle to reconfigure an existing switch to mirror a port. I use it all the time to watch traffic between a clients internet connection and their LAN and so far I have not had a single problem with it. If you are buying one for similar use note that you should change the IP that it comes configured with as other D-Link switches also come with the same IP. You don't want to plug it into someones LAN and discover they have another D-Link switch hidden away that will cause an IP conflict. As a bonus the interface on this switch is very responsive and un-cluttered. I cant stand a switch with a slow interface. Looking at you Netgear.

Works great and the few extra dollar for web management allows us to track down a faulty NIC card that was causing network wide issues.

Nice little managed switch. At a price that's almost as low as a "regular" unmanaged 8 port switch.

But 3 stars rather than 5, because the switch does not support many of the functions one would usually expect in a managed switch:
no ssh / telnet access
no support for sending status changes by syslog
no support for SNMP polling to capture performance data

SNMP traps *are* supported, but only for limited data. All of the statistics ARE there - but can only accessed via web interface.
