Cheap Ethernet card, with installation headaches, December 1, 2001
This review is from: D-Link Ethernet 10 Mbps ISA Nic Combo (Plug N Play) (Personal Computers)
I've installed and configured several of these cards. Once you get it configured, it is a great card. Unfortunately, the "Plug-N-Pray" feature causes more headaches than it is worth.
If you are running a Windows plug n' play operating system (Windows 9x, ME, 2000) then you shouldn't have a problem.
However, if you are installing this card in an older Windows machine (NT 3.5, NT 4.0, etc), or under Linux you might have some problems. I almost threw up my hands when trying to configure it on an earlier version of Linux.
That being the case, if you are resurrecting an old PC to be an inexpensive home/office fileserver, print server, or custom firewall, then the cheap price might be worth the headaches.
