5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value
I can understand why the first reviewer was so displeased with this product (especially considering he bought it two years ago, when it must have cost a lot more than my $130 price). When I first used the product, I had exactly the same problems. However, I was able to overcome every problem he described, NOT by calling D-Link tech support, but rather, by simply reading...

1.0 out of 5 stars Product has many problems
This product was barely usable. The worst problem was that the mouse would track all over the place, making mousing impossible. I tried this device hooked up to a KVM, and directly to a computer, with the same results. I normally love D-link, but their tech support on this device was a joke. The tech support lady I spoke with didn't even know what this product was. She...

I can understand why the first reviewer was so displeased with this product (especially considering he bought it two years ago, when it must have cost a lot more than my $130 price). When I first used the product, I had exactly the same problems. However, I was able to overcome every problem he described, NOT by calling D-Link tech support, but rather, by simply reading the User Guide on the CD.

The Pros:
=========
- It's a highly usable product once you configure it right. YOU MUST READ THE MANUAL.

- It's a great value.

The Cons:
=========
- As of today (13-Jul-2009), this is an End Of Life product. I believe that means no more firmware or software updates and limited support.

- Remote screen updates are a bit slow. The rate of refresh is remiscent of generic VNC. Do not expect it to be as fast as Ultra VNC or Remote Desktop.

Why I believe the first reviewer misjudged this product:
========================================================
- The User Guide covers every one of the problems he complained about: (1) Where to find the serial number for the Windows client (it's on the CD sleeve, not on the unit's sticker). (2) How to configure mouse tracking to work properly; and when tracking goes awry, which might happen every ten minutes of active use, it takes 0.5 second to fix -- just move mouse to the edge of the screen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Product has many problems, October 5, 2007
This review is from: D-Link KVM-410 1-Port KVM Switch (Personal Computers)
This product was barely usable. The worst problem was that the mouse would track all over the place, making mousing impossible. I tried this device hooked up to a KVM, and directly to a computer, with the same results. I normally love D-link, but their tech support on this device was a joke. The tech support lady I spoke with didn't even know what this product was. She thought it was a network switch, or a router. She ended up recommending that I return the product. Hmmm... So why do they even make it?

Even if Dlink fixes the mousing issues, I didn't really like how the remote control software worked. It's setup in such a way that you have to download an .exe file from the units internal webserver each time you want to connect to it remotely. I tried to install the viewer/admin program off the included D-Link CD, but that required a serial number. To continue with the complete disaster that this product is, the serial number provided on the device, doesn't even match up with the number of characters the software was looking for. Looking again through the packaging didn't yield any other serial numbers that I could try.

On a positive note, Amazon's partner (PC Universe), was extremely helpful in facilitating a prompt return of this piece of junk.
